Hey Everyone,

I'm having trouble trying to get to the bottom of it. What is legislation? What is acceptable? What is overlooked? When do I need an Engineers certificate?

I want to go up from standard Forester MY10 215/65R16 Dueller H/T tyres to 215/70R16 BF Goodrich KO2's, plus add a 50mm body lift kit. Total 62mm centre of gravity raise.

From reading I think every thread twice and I deduce that I am classed as MC, but I am exempt from MC tyre upgrades thus limiting me to standard on-road 15mm limit.... As for Body lift I can go to 50mm...

There is mention that centre of gravity cannot be raised by more than 50mm also....(?)

Who here, in NSW, have done similar mod's to there Foz and how did you get it past the RMS and insurer? The tyre shop said it is very common to upgrade the tyres and not to worry.

I can, if neccesary, try to get an engineer sign-off the tyre increase, or stick with legal KO2's.:furious:

I would hate to get in a tangle with a Maserati and have to mortgage the house to pay it off. unacceptable risk.

I know this has been done to death, but i cant find a complete answer anywhere.

VSB14, tyres, rims suspension

Tyre diameter inrease of no more than 15mm.

50mm includes body lift AND any tyre diameter increase (ie: you can't do 2inch blocks and a larger tyre).

Thanks Duncan,

Is there some piece of the puzzle I'm missing or is it just that I cant get bigger tyres in that SUV range. I could get 225/65R16's on legally, but they seem rare in AT tyres. not worth the hassle for 6mm extra clearance.

I guess I'll just stick with 215/65R16 size KO2's and lift the body.

I don't think you're missing anything -- 215/70 is +21.5mm, which is outside regs.

In reality, I bet your suspension has sagged more than 6mm from factory; if so, then 225/65 + 50mm lift would be legal (as measured from factory specs).

As you say - options for bigger tyres are limited, the numbers just don't add up -- you're best sticking to 215/65

How much did your Engineering Cert cost, tuckerbag? Was the Engineering/Blue slip/Insurance process a Pain?
