Anzac Day is almost upon us. I love travelling and camping in Australia more than anything else. So I would like to say thanks to the Diggers, will be thinking of you and the sacrifices you and your mates made. I can do all of that and more because of you. While Gallipoli is always at the forefront on Anzac Day, let's not forget the following:

Boer War
Western Front
Middle East (both world wars)
North Africa
Battle of Britain
Mediterranean
Indian Ocean
Pacific Ocean
Atlantic Ocean
New Guinea
Bouganville
Singapore and Changhi
Burma-Thai Railway
South East Asia
Malaya
Korea
Vietnam
East Timor
Africa
The Balkans
Iraq
Afghanistan

and elsewhere

Pivotal in the defeat of the Germans despite your unbelievably small numbers in the first war, you were the first to defeat both the Germans and the Japanese on land in the second war when far bigger armies had been defeated by them. In doing so, the rest of the world learnt how to overcome Blitzkrieg and the thought that the enemy was invincible. You saved the country on the Kokoda Track, won your part of the Vietnam War and in Korea once again with tiny numbers held back massively bigger armies. You showed mateship, incredible valour and in most cases you were all volunteers, although those who did not volunteer were magnificent too.

Thankfully, we are now friends with the magnificent Turks, the Germans, the Japanese and most of other former enemies. That proved more than anything how useless war is, and that ultimately no-one wins a war.

But thanks .:sad::cry:

I have my own heroes. General Sir John Monash- one of the greatest generals the world has ever seen. Sir Edward "Weary" Dunlop- an incredible physician, humanitarian and inspiration to all who served with him and everyone else. Sir Roden Cutler VC, later Govenor of NSW; a role model in almost every way a human being could be. So many others who all did acts of valour we never hear of- many tragically killed whilist still teenagers, some as young as 15. Always brings tears to me eyes when I think of it.

Next time you drive from Sydney to Canberra, remember they have a memorial to each winner of the VC along the way. VC winners- the bravest of the brave, even though they themselves generally deny that.
