Hee guys I need help big time!

I anm in south france a 1100km from home on my way to spain. And sunday i gonna start in a organised 4x4 trek for 1 week trew the pyreneeën mountains.

Problem is that my foz makes klunking noises when i drive away from standstli.
Makes no difference if i do this in first gear or second gear in low range. Gearbox 1 month ago rebuild by a proffesional, 2 wheelbearings replaced a week a go. It occured after driving for several hours on the highway with 120km p/h. The sound is loud and scary. It has nothing to do with the engine.

The loud noices comes from below and you can feel in your seat. Looks like the axel from the gear box to the rear diff. Or the rear diff it self (is a lsd). no noices when driving more then 10km p/h
No oil leaks no lose bolts and i can't see anything wrong.

Any advice? Subaru is very un known here

Did you check the tailshaft bearing?

First thing is do a spanner check from the engine back.

Something simple I reckon.
Centre bearing, engine mounts, pitch mount at rear of engine, gearbox cross member.

as noted above, simple stuff first.
- check centre bearing on tailshaft -- has the mount come loose?
- check engine and gearbox mounts, including pitch stop
- rear diff carrier bushes?
- driveshaft UJ's

Sounds like uni joints. But my SF also make about the same noises when the gearbox mount was broken,

Duncam guessed right. It was an issue with the drive shaft form gearbox to rear diff. One of the U joints was stuck. At the moment of the breakdown I was nearby the french city Toulouse on my way to Spain for an organised 4x4 vacation. Luckely a Frenchman on the facebook site FOZTREK could help me out. He had an adress for me who had an drive shaft just 100 km north from me. It was really the middle of nowhere but i had a shaft!

I mounted the shaft a day later on a camping site and my fozz was alive and kicking again. I drove on to spain and had a wonderfull & great weekend. I will post a report of that in an other toppic.

Casperfromholland, so glad you got on the road again! Look forward to hearing about your adventure.

Best regards,

Check you wheel nuts! Similiar sound to when I put my newly painted wheels on and forgot to remove the paint from the wheelnut mating surfaces.
