Thought i would share my first road trip in my new Forester. Destination was to see some of the water falls along Waterfall way at Belligen NSW. Just near Coffs Harbour.

We drove from Sydney to Monkerai. Camping at some relatives.

There are a lot of rocky tracks in the forest around Monkerai, but nothing to serious.
I tried out the xmode on a few steep slopes and it was pretty cool. The hill decent held the car at a slow speed. The car never felt like it was getting away and i never had to use the brakes.

After two days camping we headed to Laurieton via the Buckets Ways. Its a really nice drive along the Buckets Way.

At Laurieton I took the Forester on a few sand roads but did not venture on the beach as i had no partner vehicle or maxtrax. It handled the sand roads with ease.

Then we headed to Belligen to see some of the water falls and i managed to find a few offroad trails.

I used to drive a lifted 4x4 zook with muddies, so i had to keep reminding my self of the difference in ground clearance. Had to be more careful which lines to take when the trail had big ruts.

The best part was seeing the xmode vdc kick in when driving up a steep slope.
On the trail below, we got 3/4 of the way up and started to lose traction and momentum. You could hear ABS kicking in to prevent the wheel spin, and feel the AWD moving more power to the rear. It took a few seconds to find traction again and then we started moving forward again. Impressive!

Really liking my new Forester.

Nice pics and sounds like a great trip mate.

Also, good to see some people actually allowing the VDC/ X-Mode to do it's job.
So many owners complain it does nothing, but at the first hint of wheel-spin, they get off the loud pedal.
Keep it flat and it'll do the rest.

I'll add that the VDC in mine very rarely comes on since putting BFG All-terrains on it, compared with the Rubbish Pirelli P7's it came fitted with.
A good tyre (BFG AT, Dueller 697 or Yoko AT-S) really increases the capability of these things.

Yeah HT tires offer nothing on the soft stuff. Cant wait to put AT tires on it.
