Inspired by this forester I wanted to do a similar trim job on my bumper. I like the exposed tire look and the clearance that comes with it, but I didn't want to take quite so much off, just trim the fat a little.

I forgot to take a before photo so I just lifted one of a stock SH front end for comparison. Let me know what you guys think.

It will give you a little more clearance and help approach angle. Probably beneficial in sand also as it won't tend to plough in the soft stuff. Should be a good move.

Once I get the steel bumper I'm definitely going to leave a ton of clearance in front of the tires, but yeah I figured I already bit the bottom lip on a small rock or stick once or twice.

I haven't done any sand driving yet, but we have a huge sand dunes park not far, so that's definitely gonna happen come spring.

On a side note, anyone have any clever ideas on how to relocate the washer fluid reservoir? I could just bring it up a little for not but once I go steel bumper that things gonna have to change big time.

On 97-05 models the washer bottle is located in a space behind the battery. On my model (06) they moved the bottle to infront of the wheel, but there are still the mounting points behind the battery where the old washer bottles once fit. You've got the model after mine so might be different, but worth checking if there is space and/or mounting points there. I just fitted a generic bottle in that space when I fit my bullbar. But if you have the threaded holes for mounting, you could buy a genuine bottle, from early forester/outback/impreza (they are all the same) and it would fit straight in there.
