A month or so ago I went to get some fire wood with my 5 year old daughter. Unfortunately what I thought was fairly solid ground ended up being a bottom less muddy creek.

After three hours of trying to jack things up, digging and using the firewood I had gathered as traction good old Gutsy was stuck fast and sinking so it cost me $100 to get her yanked out.

Even with the lift kit installed I am still hesitant to give it a second go.

Yeah that is a good one no jacking that one out. Being from WA originally I have only ever been bogged in sand this mud stuff is a completely different beast to tame.
 
I got bogged in a Mitsubishi Triton on Stockton beach last week - does that count?
 
^ Yes. I've also bogged my Triton - but in mud. Can't recall having bogged the Foz in mud though.
 
This was a first to be bogged in mud for me... was down south about 100km out of perth.
Sand is a whole different ball game and sooo much easier to clean!
 
Well after 5 boggings (various vehicles) in 4 days, then I see the paddock claimed the electricity meter reader when I wasn't home, I reckon one of these would be a great investment:

No matter how much you mod your vehicle they all end up in the same situation

I'd always take soft sand over mud. Maxtrax/treds usually make easy recoveries in sand, but don't always cut it in mud. And I have bad memories of Twinklz Forester being ripped apart by a snatch strap in mud. As for cleaning, sand is easier to clean, but you'll never get all off and you do get face fulls of it every time you work under the car.
 
Hehe.... Tell me about it Taza! The clods were still in tact after scooby2s paddock plough... Glad I discovered them changing the oil before the mechanic did!

Taza, where was that? Looks like around Mandurah estuary area, I've had familiar episodes years ago in my RAV4. :)

Trip to wellington Dam the forester got bogged at night in the mud. Two L series tied together couldn't pull it. Broke a rated shackle and the snatch strap went flying. Went and found a Hilux to have a go. After a few huge run ups it ripped the front tow point out, snatch strap went flying and did some damage to the angry drunk Hilux drivers car. No-one was hurt because we did our best to stand back. And we had a bag over the snatch strap but it didn't do much as there was so much energy. Your really need a winch for mud driving.

The serious bog is at 7:50, shackle break at 9:10 Hilux breaks tow point at 10:30
And the maxtrax didn't really work for in the mud at 7:00
 
That was not a fun conversation with my girlfriend when I got home....
