After the unfortunate write-off of my previous Forester, I am a happy owner of a 2010 2.0 N/A XS forester. Good clean car, full service history, 1 previous owner, 160 000 kms. Very chuffed, but am going to have to upgrade the rear suspension as its a little low. Will throw some strut blocks on to jack it up a little. Get rid of the 17" rims and go for 16's with a chunkier tyre and a bash plate.
I was very happy with the KYB and King combo I had on my SG, what are guys suggestions for the SH.
Whoo Hoo, back in a Forrie:monkeydance::monkeydance:
Cheers
Mike

And really! happened to the temp. gauge - what a bummer, I was so amped getting the car, I didnt notice the was no temp. gauge.

Congrats mike, bet you were missing your car.... Hope you find the temperature guage mate!

Best regards,

Thanks Scooby2, it is great to be back in a forrie. The last month has been hell. Firstly the hunt and haggling is a pita, secondly having to go out to my fields on a tractor all the time was a real pita!!! Got to get rid of the 17"s asap, about as much cushioning as a skateboard.

Congrats on the new vehicle MF! (Maybe talk to Nachaluva about strut blocks.)

Congrats and now the fun begins

Congrats, Mike.
I know how you feel about the temperature gauge. Bloody accountants :(.

Like your comment on the 225/55 17". I agree ...

Make sure that your self levelling struts in the rear aren't rooted. They will cause saggy butt syndrome. Usually seem to clap out at around the 100-150K kms mark AFAICT.

I had to replace the ones in Roo2 at about 110K kms. Probably due it having been used for towing on the open road a lot before I got it.

Mike, I agree with almostunseen. Scooby2 has the Kyb +Kings & is more of a comfort x workhorse than any vehicle in the family!

Best regards

Thanks for all the kind and wise words chaps, really good to be back in the fold! I do believe the struts are buggered. I have negotiated with the breaker yard where my totaled SG is to purchase the 16" rims which have half decent Yoko ATS. Probably be able to pick up my Kybs and kings for a song. I know the struts are incompatible, but possibly the springs are. Will have to do some research on the Kings. Would love to give Nacha the business, and will definately contact him re strut spacers. What's the lowdown re. Subframe spacers on a 2010 SH. Still learning about my new forrie, a bit clueless at this time. Cheers guy, many thanks.
Best regards
Mike

Yeah your original front springs might be compatible, but probably not.
the SH is taller and heavier than the SG, so different rates and possibly longer springs, but I can;t confirm or deny one way or the other

I Picked up my entire set (4) of KYB's from my local parts shop for $450 (AUD) including the bump stop kit.

I don;t like the spring rates of the kings for the SH, they are too stiff for the front in relation to the back, the car understeers enough as it is without over-stiffening the front.

So I've gone for the Pedders springs instead

Hopefully get it all fitted up this weekend, including my combo of NL and Subtle 1" Lift Kit

SH will need subframe spacers if you're lifting more than 1", which with kings plus strut spacers you'll need.
Nacha produces the subframe spacers you'll need!

Perusing the King catalog, I see there is only a std height spring for Sh. Catalog no. Ksrs 56. Is this the current situation? I won't be doing the front as in my experience the forester front suspension has always been OK. It's just that damn SLS combo that buggers the rear up. Went over a weird section of Tarmac yesterday where the Tarmac had deformed from the sun. The bloody SH wallowed like a hippo in a mud pool. Can anyone confirm catalog numbers for the applicable KYBS struts and kings. I have done my homework, just need someone that has done it to confirm.

Sorry, forgot to mention the KYB cat. No I got is 341486, am I on the right track.
Thanks for the input
Best regards
Mike

They aren't listed, but they do make them. Paul from Primitive racing in the US has them(yeh I know, aussie made springs haha), but I believe if you contact King, they can supply them.
I am sorry I can't help on part numbers, I got most of my suspension kit from Primitive in the US, but Nacha is your best help in Australia! He has massive knowledge of the available parts, so he may be able to source what you need!

Thanks AU, will try through Paul. As amatter of intrest, why did you source through the States? Did shoot Nacha a PM yesterday, but i dont think it went through as i dont see it in my sent folder. Did you fit the subframe spacers?
Thanks
Mike

TI sourced through the states as at the time I ordered it, primitive were the only company to offer everything as a full package, that was tested and working. Shipping wasn't too bad and the us dollar was good.
I got everything fitted by the shop, I don't fiddle around with big ticket suspension items like that!
Nacha will be able to offer you everything you should need, you are spoilt for choice!

And really! happened to the temp. gauge - what a bummer, I was so amped getting the car, I didnt notice the was no temp. gauge.

There is, but it isn't a guage it's a color-changing light. When you first start your car you'll notice there is a little blue thermostat light - this means the car is below operating temp. When the light disappears you're at nominal running temp. If the light comes back on yellow or red you're overheating.

I was perplexed too until I figured this out. I guess that's what we get when none of us ever read the manual that comes with the car. Mine probably does so much that I don't even know about. It is a bummer you can't watch the thermostat make small climbs and drops, but at least you know something is there to tell you when you're getting to the danger zone

Thanks AU, will drop a line to Primitive on Monday and see if I can get some info. For rear STD height Kings and KYB struts Ive been quoted $450 US for the pair over here. I think I will be nailed on import duties and VAT if I bring them in from abroad, making it prohibitively expensive. Have to have catalog no's over here as the importers are clueless as to what really suits our vehicles. hence want to confirm definite cat. no's. before taking the plunge.
To ResDead, I was aware of the temp. warning lights, but hell, I want a gauge.
Guess, better put a Scangauge on my wish list.
Cheers
Mike
