4,44 final ratio and 1,447 LR standard in 1,6XV

Thanks for that.

I reckon it would need that sort of gearing just to get it moving! It's about 100 kgs lighter than Roo2, with a fraction of the power and torque.

Gets far better fuel economy than Roo2 though. That's a very important consideration for some, in some circumstances, and I understand that.

Interesting, I thought subaru had killed off their low range gearbox in all models.

Now the big question: How much would a new box like this cost?? I wouldn't mind seeing if they've change the low range setup or any of the dimensions of that setup...

Ultimately subaru need to put the low range at the back of the gearbox and take the strain off the drive gears. Only then would the REAL low range fun begin! This would easily be incorporated with a locking centre diff that can also be an LSD or the DCCD setup when unlocked - best of all worlds!

I reckon it might be a straight Forester/Impreza DR box. I recognise some of the ratios, as I'm sure you do also ... :poke: :iconwink:

As for the torque to weight ratio of the DR XV vs the DR series II SG - the XV is about 93% of the weight with about 66% of the (maximum) torque. Of course this says nothing about the shape of the torque curve wrt that of the SG.

I very much doubt that FHI is likely to radically redesign the DR box layout considering that they have all but phased it out :(.

Nah those ratios read more like that from an impreza. 1st is pretty much the same across the board, the 2nd ratio in the foz box from memory is 2.something (depending on SF or SG) ;)

Or just buy the diesel and swap in 4.44 diff gears

Very interesting, I rather like the XV having had one as a loan car for the last month. The Australian delivered model come with a 6 speed manual and no low range where as the Netherlands version get a five speed manual and low range.
If I did buy one I would have to do something about the approach angle by fitting a Subaxtreme bar.
Quite enjoying the CVT but just wonder about long term.
