Ok so the monsoons on my Forester were rooted, cutting us as we got in and making a god awful whistling sound, so I got out some fishing wire and cut them off.
Only problem is now there is a heap of ugly grey goo stuck to the car where the monsoons were.
Anyone have any good tips to get it off without damaging the paint underneath?

I believe it is a kiwi term for window deflector/weather-shield.

Whole nuther language over there :rotfl:

^ Sux of one, or sex of the other ... :rotfl:.

I suppose 'monsoons' is as good a term as any other ... .

Anyway, back on topic. Have you tried plain old turps?

If that doesn't work, maybe Prepsol? Just don't breathe too much of the bloody fumes!

a good wax and grease remover, sucks to have to wax the car after

I've had success with methylated spirit before, if that fails try petrol on a rag.
You'll need to wash and wax the car after regardless of how you remove the adhesive, as there won't be any wax under where the adhesive was.
Hope this helps

Thanks guys, - yes Monsoon is the plastic above window thingy. Don't worry, I'll teach you all to speak Kiwi eventually.

Good to hear Turps / Meths is an okay to use. Will give it a go later if the weather clears up.

Go to your local bodyworks supplies shop and get the Silicone remover (Spies Hecker product)
And you can also pick up new Body moulding tape to stick them back on with.

You wipe it over the old glue/ tape for a few minutes first, then go back with a rag soaked in it and a credit-card, wipe and scrape, comes off a treat

Be careful using petrol as a cleaning agent. It is absorbed through the skin and is very toxic to the liver. It is the principal reason why petrol pump jockeys were replaced with self-serve pumps back in the 1970s. Life insurance companies had a 100% loading on pump jockeys ... :(.
