Hi,

I picked up a spare set of 4 x Subaru white sports wheels (Brumby, sportwagon etc) and have just noticed that 3 of them seem to have a slightly different offset (right word?) to the other one. By this I mean that the centre part of the wheel is mounted not centrally to the rim, but more towards the inner edge of the rim, so if it was on the car, the tyres would be sitting out wider on 3 of the wheels. I've checked against my current Sportswagon and this seems incorrect.

Has someone done this to the wheels themselves or was this for a different type i.e. only on Brumby's or MY Subarus etc?

Thanks
Stephen

I don't know about the Sunraysia type wheels that were often standard on the 1970s Brumbys and some of the L series, but there are a number of different offsets (it is the right word ... ) on other Subie models.

No way should you run different offset rims on the same car. IMO this would be extremely unsafe.

Thanks Ratbag, yeah I know it would be a problem. Just snapped a pic or two so demonstrate, hopefully you can see the centre "disc" of the wheels are different.

IMO, those are off different makes of vehicle.

Note the difference between the wheel nut holes and also the shape of the spokes - both flat on and pattern shape.

Be very careful that the nut shoulder and rim angle are the same.

Hmm, keenly spotted. How strange they are so similar then. I wonder if they are a different year or type of Subaru? The one on the left seems to be the same as what's on my Sportswagon now so I assume that is the correct one.

Rims

The factory L series white spoke rims were a different design to fit over bigger rear drums. MY/Brumby were the original ones.

Thanks Legacytt, that makes sense, so the wheel on the Left is the L-Series one and the one on the Right is the MY/Brumby wheel. I'll go back to the seller and see if they can swap them.

Thanks heaps!

Legacytt is correct. The one on the left is off an L-series, the one on the right, is off an MY/Brumby. The L-Series one has a more angular spoke to fit over the larger front caliper. They will fit a Brumby, but MY wheels, which are the flatter ones, will not fit an L-Series.

There are however another type of wheel, which has a wider rim, and a wider offset. These are known as 'speedy' wheels, and can be ID'd buy the red and green stripes around the rim.

Beigewagon.

Hi Beigewagon,

Thanks for that. Bit annoying, so now I've got 3 x MY and 1 x L-Series wheel all painted up to go onto the car! I've emailed back the seller on eBay with my issue and hopefully he will come to the party and replace the incorrect ones or take them all back if needed.

My ones are looking pretty tired and making the car look old, so they need a refurb...which these were planned to be!

Stephen.
