My MY03 Forester has, as no doubt all other Subarus, a light around the ignition key entry slot on the RH side of the steering column.
The light is designed to gradually dim to out after the car has been locked and comes on again when the doors are unlocked once more.
Over the last 3 or so months this light will not extinguish unless I disconnect the battery.
Being an LED light I am not unduly worried about a flat battery but would like it working properly, if only because I am not happy about an interior light being on when the car is parked and empty.
Have tried resetting the ECU but haven`t tried pulling the dash apart as yet to either replace or remove completely.
I presume that this is the only option to fix this recalcitrant light.
Any suggestions, hints etc gratefully received.

The Gen3 liberty dimmer stuff (interior light slow dim after closing the doors) is controlled by a magic box under the dash.

Find a wiring diagram for your model and see if its the same setup. If so, then either replace the box (wreckers), or bypass it so that the lights are wired direct to Acc power.

Hi DC,
Thanks, is SG model.
Now that you mention it the interior, roof, light started to misbehave, won`t come on when doors open, about the same time. I attributed that to a faulty roof switch.
Sounds like it is all tied in together.

It might not be related but we have trouble with the light at the very rear of our SF not coming on and have narrowed it down to something to do with where the tailgate connects into the body of the car (I can't think of the name of it at the moment!!) there must be a sensor in there that is not recognising that the tailgate is open and hence doesn't switch on the light! - Maybe it is a sensor issue in your case also?
