Hi All
Could someone please tell me if I could put a set of 215-70-16 on an 08 Outback?

If not maybe a set of Bridgestone 697 215- 65-16. My current size is 215-55-17.
I have a set of 16" Forester rims so Im looking for a chunkier tyre like the BFG Or Bridgestone or Yokohama ats. Im told rolling dia must be very close or the centre diff may play up.
Cheers

A warm :welcome: to the ORS forum, mate.

As for tyres. All 4 must be the same rolling diameter +/- a few mms.

As for size, anything that will fit, and must be no more than 15 mms larger in diameter than the largest size that could be fitted to your make and model (per the tyre placard). If 16" tyres are listed on your placard, then no more than 15 mms larger diameter than these.

Our SH has 17", but also has a 16" on the placard.

If fitting a non-standard size (rim width and diameter; tyre diameter, profile and width) don't forget to check with your insurer ... Get it in writing ... :poke: :iconwink:.

Thank you RB.
So my tyre placard says I can have 215-60-16 as well. So does that mean 215-65-16 would not fit? I see foresters on Youtube with BFG's but that is in the US. Must be different here.
Cheers

Hahaha.

There is effectively nothing equivalent to the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) in the USA. It's pretty much open slather WRT modifications, except for anti-pollution stuff.

Check with your insurer about fitting the 215/65 16". Better to argue about it before an accident, rather than after one ... :(.

Hi dentalfloss,

I'm pretty sure your car would fit 215/70R16 tyres with no rubbing.

What Ratbag is pointing out is that you must take into account the legalities around changing the diameter of your tyres. In VIC (and I reckon most of Oz) you can only legally increase the rolling diameter by 15mm.

If you use a site like this: https://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

You'll be able to punch in the details and check the comparison side by side...

If you hang around here long enough, you'll see people here run larger tyres. Those are personal decisions that must be made by each of us and with a full understanding what is permitted by the regulations.

Good luck!

And welcome!!

Pedro.

Even with a 40mm lift on my MY03 Forester the LH front tyre rubs slightly using 65 profile tyres. Yet some use 70 profile with, it seems, no probs.

Thanks All
Yes I see. Makes sense. Im seeing plenty of Outbacks in your photo Gallery with Forester rims. I expect this is to allow the greater profile for off track. To be continued.
Great help.
Cheers
