On my short ride home steam starts billowing out the front of the car. I quickly pulled over and there is coolant all over the front of the engine, none on the rear. Oil is clean. I don’t believe I overheated the car. The gauge was normal at all times and it had only been driven about 3 miles at that point. Took about half gallon to refill the overflow and radiator. I drove home slowly the last mile. But it is steaming again and down the same amount of fluid when I pulled into my driveway. Quick visual check showed nothing at first. Steam was coming up both sides of the engine and there is a puddle under car.
Now an hour later it is still slowly dripping from the drivers side front. Near the thermostat/water pump area. It will drip with the radiator cap off then it will stop with it back on. I suspect and hope it is just the water pump seal gone bad. I’m going to let it sit until morning and take a better look at it in the morning. What do you think let go? Can a water pump just blow suddenly? I need to look at what other coolant lines are in that area?
