On saturday i am allways wrenching on one of my cars. Normaly it all goes well but today..

First i started mounting a new distribution set. The engine is not mounted in my fozzy yet so that should be no problem. All went fine until i set all bolts on 43nm as advised, there the screw-thread (is that a good english word?) of the spanner decided to die :(. Ouch. First i was a bit scared but later i found out that that area is fitted with 3 bolts to the engine so on monday i will go to the wreckers.

It became worse.. i bought a 2.0 ej from a legacy, that engine has a 2 mass flywheel, which is hard to remove. The bolts of that flywheel are so tighten that it is impossible to get them out. Even no succes using airtools.:madred: Took me several hours and finally i broke my torx wrench on them. Any advice how to get those d#mn bolts out without braking things?

After this i quit and went home.. more luck next time

Sorry to hear that. I cannot help, but I do hope you will solve those issues easily!

Casper, those bolts haven't by any chance got bent over lock washer tabs under them?

If they have, those need to be prised outwards and flattened before the bolts will move.

Otherwise, drench them in Penetrene for a few days.

Sorry to hear about your frustrating day and broken tools.

Good luck!

The Torx bolts on dual mass flywheels SUCK! Getting it off my old 2.5 engine was a nightmare and most of the bolts ended up rounding out. We had to get some very expensive drill bits and drill the bolt heads off.

^ Thanks, Dave. I missed the significance of the Torx spanner the first read through.

I really, REALLY, loathe it when manufacturers of anything start this sort of BS.

Hex heads, whether external (bolts, nuts that "normal" spanners fit) or internal (Allen keys) are all but indestructible in use, and have almost universal application. Any person with an ordinary kit of tools can work with these.

For my computer work (in particular), I have a set of 'security' tools. This includes Torx drivers. They are an abomination IMNSHO. Could have been designed to strip ... For larger nuts, stripping Torx nuts is all but guaranteed!

These sorts of specialised fixings fall into the same category as my well known hatred of body clips ... :shake: :yell: :furious: :puke:.
