Hi guys,
I'm getting a set of driving lights for the Foz... a set of Narva Maxim 150's... as the ECB nudge bar won't accept a 7" light... and I don't want to use square lights. Just need some clarification on the wiring for the SH...

I found this post on another site for the SH... https://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f85/sh-high-beam-switching-wire-aux-lights-131546/
It says to connect the white wire with silver trace from the headlight plug to the relay... but doesn't say which pin. I'm assuming that it would have to go to one side of the coil.... with the other side of the coil going to the switch in the cabin and then to ground??

So... would be something like this?
Battery -> Fuse -> Pin 30 on relay
Pin 87 on relay -> positive on driving lights
High beam trigger (white wire silver trace in picture) -> Pin 85 on relay
Pin 86 on relay -> switch in cabin which gets earthed.

Also, will be doing a HID upgrade to these lights down the track... and also want to add a light bar in the near future, have picked out a 20" model that will also mount on the nudge bar underneath the driving lights. When it comes time to wire up that system, can I just jumper another wire across from the driving light relay pin 85 to the lightbar relay pin 85 as they will both be driven by the high beam trigger?

One last thing... mounting the driving light switches in the cabin in an SH... where is the best place? I would like to put in some proper red illuminated switches to match the rest of the interior lighting... if anyone has any pics of how they have done their switches in an SH I'd love to see them to get some ideas!

Cheers.

I mounted my switch to the left of the steering column.

I bought this wiring harness, as it includes a passthrough adapter for the headlamps, and everything you need to wire in driving lights. It includes all plugs and pins for the waterproof connectors so you can customise it to your needs.

Thanks fellas.

AU... does the Narva harness make it a lot easier??

Should do - I've got one for the Triton but have not used it as yet.

If your lights didn't include a harness, I would say get it as it makes everything pretty easy, and it is very well made. The main cables have corrugated sheathing on them, most of the the connectors are water proof, the fuse holder is waterproof.

It also saves you the hassle of having to custom wire in the high beam trigger, it has a relay and passthrough connector, so basically all you do is unplug one of your highbeam connectors, connect it to the passthrough, then connect the other end of the passthrough to the high beam.
I can grab some pictures if you want?
This is where I bought it from, very quick shipping:

I can also recommend that ebay seller for very prompt shipping and decent deals.

Thanks for the link AU. The thing is I'm leaving for Brisbane this Saturday after lunch, so if I do buy the lights I'll more than likely just get the harness to make it all an easy installation as I'll be running out of time!
They did have some light bars in there today aswell... VERY tempted to get one. Going to have a better look at them in the morning... not sure which way I'll swing... driving lights or light bar. Thing is I'll be driving most of the night straight thru and there's a few stretches of road on that highway where it'd be beneficial to have both driving lights and the light bar... just not sure wether I can stretch the wallet that far right before going on holidays!

I got the narva lightbar, pretty pricey, but very good light spread. Though for straights you can't beat driving lights, especially Hid. I opted for the light bar Because I do a lot of hilly and bushy and kangaroo infested roads. Really is just personal preference

I've done the trip a couple times now with just +100 bulbs in the high beam, along with the sonic whistles seems to have kept me from hitting anything... but would much rather have better lighting... especially doing such a long trip by myself. As for light bars I would ideally like a 20" but I have a feeling the only ones there today was a 24" and maybe a 12 or 14"... then the long ones... but can't do a roof mount light bar due to having a 5.75m long fishing kayak strapped to the roof!

A 20" would be ideal for what I want... although I may even go with a smaller one and get the spotties and a HID kit for them... contemplating if I'll actually get them fitted... I did say I was leaving Saturday lunch time haha

Should do - I've got one for the Triton but have not used it as yet.

They look the goods with the passthru etc... to be honest... I love wiring stuff in cars... it's awesome when my nephews come around with their Patrols... then pull out all sorts of things like under bonnet ARB air compressors and dual battery setups... and then those magical words... "do you think you could help me install this" haha.

Then it's usually half to a full day of working out how it all goes together and getting it fitted. LOL

What lightbars did they have, the narva ones?

And a lightbar can always be mounted underneath the crossbars for the roofrack, though the larger lightbars can be pricey if you get a good brand.

I also went for the lightbar because it would fit well hahaha. I had a pair of IPF 900XS that I was going to HID convert, but they just didn't under the hoops of my bullbar.

They weren't Narva light bars... not sure of the brand to be honest... one of the imported ones but seemed to be decent quality.

That's what I'm finding too... very limited to what size round lights fit in there.

I went in to get the lights today... a mate of mine was working and told me not to bother with the Narva's... even with HID globes they lenses are crap!
I did find a nice pair of X Vision LED spotties at $680 a pop... but outta my price range... lastly looked at a LED lightbar... 12x10w CREE led's... SUPER bright... think I'll pick it up tomorrow morning.

Also... the narva wiring loom... can't use it... my car has HID's and seperate high beams... so I don't have the H4 plug for the loom to plug into :(

Ah that sucks with the passthrough, so you don't have a separate plug at the top of your light housing for the highbeam?
Are your HID's only for the lowbeam, or lowbeam and highbeam? Or only highbeam?

Sorry for the late reply... have been away on holidays!

AU... the first kit I saw only had the H4 plug on the loom... but I did see that Repco has the same wiring system with the HB3 (I think it is) 2 pin plug for the high beam on my car! I haven't even bought driving lights or a light bar yet... and after spending way too much $$$ while I was away I think I'll just have to hold off and save a bit more up. Also having drama with the boost on my tractor... not sure if it's a bad sensor or something wrong with the turbo but need to get it to Subaru before I do the drive north again :(

Hmm Doesn't sound good, keep us posted!
Is never good coming from a trip with something broken.
