I will be heading to Dunsborough March 7 for a few days. Anyone have an update on the 3 bears track conditions?
Will be with a heavily pregnant wife and 3 yr old in an 05 XT stock suspension, so I don't want to be tackling anything hardcore.

8 months ago, Lefty's wife wasn't pregnant either ...:iconwink:.

Seriously though, Lefty, it might not be a good idea to go anywhere even vaguely remote at this time, no matter how good the roads are!

My sister in law's waters broke in the car going to the hospital, and that was in suburban Brisbane ...

Not realllly remote, last i heard its pretty bumpy (busy seasons, lots of traffic with full tyre pressures) but i can go check it out for you and let you know for sure if you like as its just down the road!

3 Bears as of 29th Feb

Hi Lefty.

We did the 3 Bears over the long weekend. I would reccommend going North to South entering at in at Sugarloaf road.
The track is rutted in some spots from surfers in Hilux's etc NOT lowering tyre pressure. North to South is mostly down hill which makes life easier.
There are some tight corners and surfers come through at speed but we found them curteous. Just honk your horn at tight corners.
The ruts make it "Bouncy" as my 3 year old liked to comment.
if you want an easy trip enter from the south at Helmsley Rd near BushShack Brewery. Go to the end. You will see a track to the left, a gate in front and also to the right. The entrance is the LHS track. It was fairly smooth until the look out / surfing area. If you want a smooth ride stop here enjoy the view and go back the way you came.

Thanks for the update. Might do the 2nd option as my wife would not appreciate a bouncy ride with a baby pressing on her bladder lol

Did the whole track today. Started from Hemsley rd entrance to the surf point pretty easy going all the way. Stopped for some pics , the Mrs and kid gave the all OK so we continued northwards and exited Sugarloaf rd. Several big holes in the last stretch but was easy to skirt around them. Saw a couple of foresters in the surf carpark, definitely doable for a stock standard Foz.
Couldn't go past Meelup beach when it's looking as good as this:

After a quick splash at Meelup, went to air up at the conveniently located Shell and lunch from the bakery

I am glad you had a good time. You are right about the big holes. I am surprised you got out at Sugarloaf road. The limestone rocks just near the top of the hill north of the surf point took some navigation. Yes Meelup is awesome

the 205/75r15 ATs helped with clearance even though it's only a small lift over stock.

Glad you had fun!

We tried once when wife was pregnant with the second and promptly executed a 180.

It was not that bad, but a spot a couple of miles from the start of the trail provided a good excuse. The B9 then had performance street tires, with which it came when I bought it, that were already wearing down. Faced with a slippery and rutted, if mild uphill, the B9 just refused to go. I refused to turn traction control off and give it any momentum. It was a tight spot though so I got a brush mark or two backing out of it.

Soon afterwards I replaced the Sumitomo HTR sport with Toyo AT tires. The rest, as they say, is history :)
