KYB /kings 30mm lift combo

Gidday Lefty

I can't say about this kit, price, or seller, but I paid $674 for just my rears from Pedders, unfitted. They were complete units. No lift, but I am very happy with them.

Looks to me as if you have to use your existing top hats with the kit you are looking at. Is this so?

Lefty,
"
their the same seller i'm looking at for mine,
they have a good reputation from what I can see, and i can't find a better price anywhere, even with trade prices at local stores

Lefty,
that is good price, I paid around $800 two years ago. I am not sure what year your car is, so check the KYB catalogue for the part numbers as they vary slightly for the early and late SG. It is online. The Kings part numbers look correct for raised springs. Fitting is not that hard but you need spring compressors. If you have to pay around maybe $300.
You will be very happy with the result.

I was looking at that but then I bought the springs and shock seperatly as i was looking at the ultima/Selby shocks.

I bought the shocks through these guys

DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!!

I had to open a dispute through eBay to get my money back...for both items i bought from them!

I have been dealing with these guys and they are really helpful, asking about my car to ensure exactly the right part and what i want to use the car for, any lift etc.

They have informed me that the Ultima/Selby shock are currently out of stock til the end of the month.

This is the set up that we are currently running and so far so good! We are just having a slight issue with the rear being a little lower than the front at the moment but we are waiting on some 1" spacers to arrive that should hopefully fix the issue - but for the moment, the tow bar has been coping a bit of a flogging ;)

Lefty,
If you do it yourself, remember to mark the o'clock position of the front camber bolts before you undo them. I can't remember if they are the top or bottom of the two bolts at the bottom of the strut.
Whilst you are doing it for not much more cost you can fit a 1inch Gorilla HDPE lift kit. These cost $115 US plus postage.

I paid $1600 in Feb last year. $153 for each pair of springs, $177 each strut, $80 for wheel alignment, $360 labour and $145 GST. And it was the best thing I ever got done to my Forester. It rides better, handles better and feels like it's tightened the whole car up.

how much of a harsher ride over stock?

Lefty,
The ride in my opinion is more firm. I run 2 SGs one is raised with Kings, KYBs & lift kit the other still has the standard front and rear self levelling set up. I think the use of the word harsh is inappropriate. The standard spring / strut set up feels too soft after driving the SG with the Kings. I get very little sag when fully loaded for a trip which also means you maintain ground clearance.
The oem suspension is set up to please the majority of owners who drive on sealed roads. If is the sanme with Landcruisers, Pajeros & Patrols you don't drive out of the showroom and do hardcore off roading. Most of those are sold for mums to pick up the kids from school.
As I said in a post above you will be happy with the set up. Also off road I run 215-65-16 for more clearance which on road give a slightly softer ride.
Trust this helps.

As with havachat I run Kings, a SubaXtreme 40 mm lift kit and KYB`s and 215X65X16`s permanently.
Ride is good, if a tad noisier but little sag except when very laden.

A bit firmer but it rides better with more control and less choppy than new. The SG Forester could never have a reputation of being a good riding car. If you are the sort of person who is happy with the stock ride then the Kings / KYB ride won't worry you. And it's definitely better with a decent load. And the benefits of stability/handling balance is waaaaaaaay better. It's a whole new and better car to travel in.

ok thanks for the input.
I bought a set of stock rears off Taza today to get me by. Taking off the top hat was a bit of a mission but got there in the end :)

would this lift affect my current rear swaybar setup - whiteline 22mm with heavy duty mounts and non adjustable endlinks?

having ummed and ahhhed about this for weeks , the seller has dropped the price by $70! so I bought the set today.
