The gear boxes should have a dipstick on them. Fill to the appropriate line ... The 5MT/DR in my 2006 Forester takes about 4L, IIRC. Can't see the boxes in your cars being significantly different from this. If there isn't a dipstick on the boxes, one normally fills to the bottom of the (side) filler hole.

With diffs generally, one fills to the bottom of the top filler hole.

These are basic guides, but I have never come across a car where it's different (yet ... ).

When Bennie ("El_Freddo") next visits, chances are he will chime in with the specific info for your models, as he is somewhat of an expert where older Subies are concerned.

castrol 75w90 syntrax or 80w90 multitrax should be fine, formulated for combine gearbox/ hypoid lsd. Or any 80w90 gear oil suitable for hypoid lsd, not sure on refill capacity for the ea boxes I think they were slightly smaller in capacity than ej box.

Don't auto stores in the states have books with this info in the oil section?

one is a gl the other is a gl10 with a sunroof :iconwink: and alright i just didnt want to accidently over fill...the dealership should have the lsd additive right? because from what i found that makes a night and day difference with the viscus lsd...thanks all who chimed in! and if anyone in the states is looking im selling the one with the sunroof to help pay for school....and i want to be higher in the air again

Viscous LSD doesn;t need additive, the VC unit is sealed

Multitrax, is now called Universal and it's awesome,
use it in all gearboxes, and add a big tube of Nulon G70.
for rear diff use the slightly heavier Castrol EPX, 80/120 I think
