What is the average miles per tank or range can you expect to get out of a 2005 forester XS with 2.5 and 4 speed auto? Mines getting between 280-300. Does that sound about right?

It all depends ...

You really need to keep a record of every time you fill over a number of tanks to eliminate fill errors.

Then there is how the vehicle is used.

Our SH 4EAT Sportshift gets terrific fuel economy on the open road (about 8.5L/100 kms with 4 adults) :). With short trips around the suburbs, this drops to 12.5-13.3 L/100 kms :(.

It all depends how you are measuring that. Do you fill when the light comes on? In the (AUDM at least) SG 60 litre tank, that is usually with 11 litres to go so about 48-49 litres from full down to that point.

Your 280-300 miles = ~ 450-480km, so if that's how you're filling it's about 10-10.5 L/100km. In my MY07 SG9-X-5MT I typically use 9L/100 around the 'burbs. On one country run, full of touring gear, we did 636km before refilling and took less that 48 litres to chock-a-block full.

Depending how you drive, the figures can be all over the place, but it's ballpark.

Best I've done is about 680KM(422 miles) highway cruising. And that was uh, till empty :P

9 is good in an XT. Do u have a tune?
Who, me? Mine's an X, not an XT - maybe I confused things with "X-5MT" but wanted to be clear it's a Manuel ....

Also I drive it like I want it to last, not like it's my last drive.

Did 400kms from full untill light came on on freeway, not the best, but yeah I have a heavy foot :p 2.0 turbo manual mapped.

610km on the open road
ran out @ 510km open road with roof top tent
420km around town
480km around town after tune

I only better 10L per 100 on the highway.

Our 2006 SG gets around 7.3-7.5L/100 kms on the open road with two adults and a moderate amount of crap on board (~60 Kgs).

About 10.5-13L/100 kms around the suburbs. The better figure is if doing cross town trips on mainly arterial roads. The worse figure is if the tank is mainly used for short local shopping trips. Or towing the trailer to the trailer repair shop ...

It's a 2.5L 5MT/DR.

One cannot escape the simple physics. It takes a fair bit of fuel to accelerate a 1.5 ton vehicle from a stand still at traffic lights etc.

I manage 15+ every time im in a turbo car... I guess you don't drive like me haha

I don't quite agree with that Taza. My manual XT has been easy to get 9L/100km when stock and tuned. In fact open road cruising at and slightly above the limit would be more like 8.5. It's been as low as 7 a couple of times when taking it quietly. The whole 276,000km life of the car has had an average of 9.3 which includes all urban work where it goes to around 12.5.

With so many variables affecting fuel economy on the XT's, I average around 9 to 9.5l/100k's, 50/50 urban and freeway driving. One thing I can tell you is since the turbo upgrade from TD04l to the VF43 and retune, the car comes on boost effortlessly, from 2000rpm, developing 2-3psi of boost before I change gears at 3-3500rpm.

earlier boost > fuel

^^ Wow! I know my XT is an auto and that doesn't help, but the very best I've ever had was around 9.0l/100km!!

My overall average over the 210,000kms driven is 11.1 at the moment...

Maybe I should take it for a proper tune?!?

Fuel economy isn't really a topic that can be discussed on a forum full of modified vehicles.
A turbo is is designed to be thrashed and will likely use more fuel than a non turbo equivalent.
I know my EA81 MY wagon does 8 around town with me thrashing the guts out of it... while I seem to use more fuel than most people I drive like I'm driving a race car everywhere... anythimg better than 300km to a tank (55-60l) is perfectly acceptable for me when driving like you would in Bathurst.
