So yeah, went out earlier today with a buddy of mine with his modified Forester. Took some back mountain roads and found this neat area to slide around with the cars. Ended up parking a little too close to the edge of the road when filming, this caused the car to slip into a ditch, then my efforts to get the car out of said ditch just made it worse.

Enjoy watching your vids Blue Fox. Was that smell at the end of the video the clutch or rubber?

My all terrains smell TERRIBLE when they burn. Definitely not a good tire-burning smell for sure.

Exceedingly cool.

In fact, more like bloody freezing cold ...

The more so because it's just hit 38°C here, and heading for 40+ ... That's 100.4°F to 104°F for those of us still stuck on non-metric measurements ... :iconwink: .

Doesn't spinning the wheels so vigorously cause the snow to melt and become ice? That could account for some traction loss there. Of course, the summer tyres wouldn't help either ...

How did you get the first framer out of that position?

It wasn't too cold. Spinning the tires all depends on the tires. With summer tires, you will spin them regardless, but tires without aggressive tread usually end up packing down the snow, causing it to get very slick, yes. This is shown many times in the video. But with tires like that, you sort of need to spin them to maintain momentum, but at the same time it slickens the ground beneath you, so it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of thing.

With the all terrains, it just chews up the snow, which is mostly why I gather I was able to make it out of my predicament. In fact, these tires kind of make "sliding" around a little lack luster because we usually always go to gravel/dirt parking lots. I usually have more traction than I want because the tires dig through the snow and to the dirt. Summer tires are obviously crap. So some non-studded winter tires usually end up doing the trick just right.

I didn't get it on film, but he managed to get out of his little ditch situation the same way I did......POWER!!!!! Took him a long time to get up that hill though, but once he was up, it was all down hill from there.

Thanks for explaining how that works, BF.

I have all of about 30 minutes experience of snow driving!

Hi there u guys and Happy New Year!
I believe from my experience in the snow is that if u don't have winter tires u can't go anywhere in the snow!!
I have tons of videos and demonstrations with other cars having ATs tires vs winter tires!
The difference is huuugeeeee!!
Especially f the snow is packed and cold!not just powder!
That's what i believe.
