Plans to go to Marocco in 2015

Sounds good Vincent! With the subi and a tent or a hotel trip?
we are going in october. Gives me the time for the things to do

Hotel in Marrakech, Ouarzazate and Zagora, then tent or just sleeping bags in the sand dunes under the stars and a few B&B in small villages.

The whole trip in the Foz with the family, not an organized trip…(I hate that !)

For me it will be the first time that I’m going to morocco. I have never see a dessert and I speak just a bit French.

For me it will be also the first time that I go on an organized trip so I will find out how that is. For sure it will be the most expensive vacation I ever had.

I didn't dare to go alone for the first time I want some other cars in my neighborhood.
Hope to see your pics when you’re back!

Can anyone see the video ?

Are the atlas mountain roads comparable with your backyard the french and italian alps roads?

Moroccan sealed roads are mostly in very good condition as well as most of the tracks. Its an easy to drive country but its preferable not to drive at night because of the people and animals walking on the side of the roads and the trucks with about 10 or more powerful headlamps burning your eyes...

Changed the link of the video, hope it works now !

Wonderful land!

It resembles the Southwest, broadly speaking.

The movie has an internal division between Acte 1 and 2. The long drive in Acte 1 looked like Subaru land. None of those 4x4 could compete in the wide open spaces in Acte 2, either, lol. However, there are a few moderate sections in Acte 2 where having mild mods would be an excellent idea. One is at the outset. The rocky river crossing at around the 38 min mark looks like the single biggest challenge.

I think I could do all I saw with my minimum-mods setup and brand new oversize tires (29" probably better than my once 28.4" ones; stock is 27.6, which is what mine are now). A front skid plate that does not eat 0.5" of clearance (1.25 cm) would help. Someone with a car like mine might need to build up a bit that river crossing, though, did not see it well enough to tell. Obviously, water levels can make a big difference at different points.

Do they do road maintenance every spring? Or on as-needed basis? Do they get heavy rains over the summer? I assume that May/early June might be the driest, as is here, alongside mid-Sep to late Oct. Of course, May gets hot for the uninitiated!

Have a great time, looks like a fantastic adventure!

I did a similar trip in '07 with my Foz and it was just awesome ! The mods I had at that time were Dobinsons springs, 1" strut lift, BF AT 215 70 16's, skid plate, front Quaife differential (not necessary)…et voilà ! The unique problem I had was with the rear top hats, the rubber disintegrated but I solved that by cutting pieces of truck tires.

I go back this spring with my wife and kids because its the nicest season, not too cold at night, not too hot during the day. The rain season is more in end of autumn and winter. The Atlas mountains are quite high (Mt Toubkal 4'100m) so there is snow up there !

More about the trip within 2 1/2 months :iconwink:

Depends where you go, but far south you must fill up at every gas station even if the tank is 3/4 full. I always carry a 10 liter jerrycan when I go to Morocco.

Nearly ready !

Departure next tuesday...
