My speedo/odometer stopped working therefore my cruise control won't work either...the rest of the dash is fine...what are your thoughts please??

Options (based on SG) are limited to:

Speed sensor fail
Cluster microprocessor fail
Wiring loom (between above) fail.

So have humans been near any of these just prior to the failure? Changed gearbox recently?

Forgot I had this.
P0502 Vehicle Speed Sensor A Circuit Low.
If it is the 'speed sensor' what does this entail to fix the problem? Do you think it is possible to get a part from a wrecker??
Thanks.

I've only ever enquired once at a wrecker, for an SG one - and they said "it's part of the box". But don't let that stop you trying.

Before going too far down that path, that code simply means the cluster micro isn't registering a pulse train from the sensor. Could be a connection issue. If you can borrow one from a fellow forum member to try, that'll be the best (i.e. cheapest) diagnostic path.

Manual or auto? MT it just unscrews from the top of the box.

Yes, easily removed and there's harness connector at the rear of the engine, but wreckers don't like having a box with a hole in it. That's why borrowing one to try is the best way forward.

Well I have had a poke around and found a couple of things but not sure what is what. It would be better if I had a hoist but I don't. I can't really tell what's what. Is it passenger side or drivers?
I can't swap with anyone around here....once (if) I get it out and there are not many wreckers I could test out....any idea what the OZ going price is???
I can't get a clear enough image of the pic above. I'll try youtube also.

Had another look and reckon I have found it. Black looking thing. Had a fiddle with the connector but can't really good a good grasp of anything. I'll jack it up and take off the wheel and see what I can do. I'll price one at the filthy Subaru stealer later in the week.

Exact same symptoms to when my speed sensor failed. I just pulled one out of a car at a pick a part joint, had to go to 3 places to find one because they were either auto, the sensor was missing or the whole gearbox was gone.

Not any wreckers close to me. I'll see what I can find out. I assume it has to be from an identical motor.....mine is MY05 manual...approx. 113kw model.

I believe they are the same across the range (in MT that is). But a phone call to the stealership's parts man should help clear that up, and will help your search.

I think there are a few variants of plugs (either a separate 2-pin plug for reverse switch, or combined into a single 4-pin). Should be pretty obvious when you look.

Just have a look down under your airbox. There'll be either one or two plugs coming off the engine wiring harness and down towards the box.

Best bet is take yours off, and use it as a reference when you go looking for a replacement.

EDIT - sorry, that's not right. Looks like there's 3x2pin (reverse, neutral, low if you have it), plus a 3-pin for speed.

here's the pic from the legacy/liberty FSM for a 5MT.

Not too clear.. but to the upper right is the front of the g'box. You can see the right-side drive output.

If you hang over the drivers-side fender (RH drive), you should be able to see the sensor and connector on the side of the box poking up.

Its the only one plugged direct to the bulkhead harness. Both the neutral and reverse switches use another short run of wiring harness on the gearbox and are located further back on the other (left) side of the 'box.

Same for the Foz - SG at least. Unfortunately, the best view and access are when it's up on a hoist. And I like the "Drop all the exhaust" step

Thanks for the help. Just need to find a wrecker. Easier said than done down this way. I might have to get a part from the US.
