The offroad gearboxes look interesting....

Ultimate Warrior

Differential Components and Hemispheres. If your desire is to go seriously off road then you cannot go past this gearbox.

1st gear is virtually a crawler gear when combined with our 1.61 custom made low range gear set and a 4.4 final drive ratio.

Limited slip diff operation is achieved by the use of a clutch type configuration for extreme performance.

Exchange Units - Dispatching Daily

All Gearboxes are built with genuine bearings, seals and sealing compounds. Front differentials are set up to suit manufacturer's tolerances.
All Ultimate Dual range gearboxes are compliant with all Dual range gearboxes from 1999> to present.
For further information please feel free to discuss your query with one of our friendly representatives.

To answer your question Andrew, yes they are part of All Drive Subaroo who have a great reputation and several ORS members are running Subaroo gearboxes or lower 1st gears.

NachaLuva was looking into this, some details here

Last time he checked the low range gear sets alone were over 1k and at that point in time they didnt have a supplier for them anyway....

Low range gearsets are $500 +GST.
The almost complete package conversion is about a $1000 + GST which includes all the machining and pre-assembly. You supply from your own gearbox, 3rd/4th/5th and reverse.
Console and lever arm is up to you to purchase separately.

The supply issue of the 1.61 ratio has been sorted and from what I have been told from both Norrie and Nazie they will be here in the new year.

I bought a stock SF Forester gearbox from them. Lasted 3 years and is now broken...
They are asking 5-6k for one...

5-6K.....How can this be?

I also got an estimate from them for 5-6k for a complete box, rebuilt second hand box, front lsd, centre dccd, 4.44 final drive and 1.6 low range.
Also note they specifically state there is no warranty on a box fitted with the 1.6 low. Gives you confidence.

The company behind these products, All Drive Subaroo, are well respected, they're not cheap but usually provide good product and service. They swapped out my engine, torque converter / front diff and gearbox in 2010.

I find that mind blowing Dedman and Taza.

The ADS supplied complete assembly dccd's I know are close to $3G's alone, but are modified to stop them from burning out.

Plated / Helical / Torsen Lsd's or genuine Subaru units are around $1G so I guess if you start adding the extra's up that total $ figure isn't so surprising.

I will be getting ADS to build me a box after having a heart attack at some of the local quotes.

I will be supplying them a front STI helical lsd and DCCD incl casing. The STI helical diff has already been machined down to fit. They are stripping and inspecting my DCCD for no extra charge. The price comes in a 1/3rd of the price stated already plus postage to WA.

The parent company All Drive Subaroo are one of the most reputable Subaru workshops in Sydney where you can get some of the 'scarier' work done like engine rebuilds and major driveline repairs/replacements.

This 'Subaru Transmissions' subdivision of ADS appear to know their stuff but had strength/durability issues with previous component suppliers. I think they are now saying they have sorted out those poor quality supplier issues. The prices are still fairly high considering Dedman got quoted up to $6000 for a box which has great specs but NO WARRANTY.

They don't seem keen to do any offroad gearboxes for turbos either.:shake::shake: Although with my 'mechanically sympathetic' style of driving I am pretty sure a DR on my GT would last for 200,000km.

Again I have a different opinion based on my discussions before and after hours (E.S.T) with both Norrie and Nazie. ADS are " keen as Bro!!" to do offroad gearboxes for turbo's.

ADS have gone to indepth detail on service and components in regards to my build reliability. Both have put their suggestions and reasons based on their own development to justify what works better as a package. They know my power output and torque curve and also my projected future power/torque curves and will be building a offroad box to suit. I have never left a conversation with ADS feeling that they never wanted the work full well knowing that I have a XT. Warranty was also discussed favourably but I must check with them again.

Bloody wish they had representation over here in the West. Same with PBMS!!

Ahh cool - I just kept seeing "non-turbo" on all the goodish stuff (like DRs) on their website . However, if you've spoken to them and they are willing to do turbo gearboxes it's good to know.

I'm getting close to 200,000km and reverse makes a racket if it's uphill. I'll be giving them a call soon enough.

I just checked their website regarding the warranty, looks like it now has a 12 month warranty excluding broken gears which is not so bad.

@ Taza, did you do the Leone low range swap/build or did you buy the ADS low range kit ?

My 1.59 LR conversion was done by SubaXtreme some 250000 kms ago. No problems so far. I add an extra half litre of oil to (hopefully) aid lubrication when going up and down steep hills. Not sure how much use this is.

The last time I spoke to them, in August, they hadn't found a new LR supplier and didn't know when they would but said it would be quite a while before they had any to sell.

With the old supplier, they estimated prices for the low spec LR to be ~$700 and the high spec LR ~$1200. Both 1.60:1

I wouldn't add extra oil. It risks causing the gearbox axle seals to leak which means removing the axle, the oil seal retainer (which also sets the preload & backlash), etc. Not a cheap job if you're going to get someone to pay for it
