The Michelins on the Forester were getting way too old, and were unfortunately beginning to dry rot/ crack quicker than they were wearing down. The guys at Discount Tire in Longmont were quite impressed considering the Michelins were put on in 2008 and had 93,000 miles on them with 38% of the tread left!
However, with the age of the forester -just rolled over 200k miles (322k km) this last week!- and a new truck in the near future, the Foresters life will probably be limited to winter driving / extra vehicle. With the high mileage and hood damage , her value for trade in is minimal & since she runs like a champ, she'll be staying with me  .
After reading tons of reviews and comparing prices, i decided to go with the General Altimax Artics. Due to a mishap last year with the Michelin X-Ice tires we put on my wifes car, i got these for a screaming good deal with all the warrantys in place & out the door for right at $400. He knocked the price of the tires all the way down to $63 a piece!
First thing i noticed is how agressive these beasts look. I'm sure if they weren't so soft, they would be a helluva A/T tire. It's only vulnerability is probably sharp rocks off road.
Winter is still a little ways off, so once i get to try her out in the powder and ice, i'll be sure to update.
