TWO VIDEOS: Placer Gulch & Lower Engineer Pass, Colorado

It's been a LONG time since I've done videos or even posted here, sorry bout that. Two videos featuring TWO Foresters. Mine and my roommates, which is bone stock except for the larger Cooper Discovery AT3 tires on his. Took an off road day trip seeing as Fall is approaching extremely quickly (leaves started turning rapidly within a week), and my opportunity for an offroad trip this year was slipping away. So I decided to take one, clutch be damned. I made 2 videos. The first one is Placer Gulch, which isn't much action, but shows some amazing scenery and me talking a lot.

The second video is more "normal" me, with crawling over rocks, torturing the clutch, and this time talking a lot more as well. Lower Engineer Pass. It's a long one too.

Enjoy.

Nice vids Bluefox :discomonkey:

The scenery is simply spectacular.

The second video highlighted just how much better the Auto is in rough terrain vs manual with the XT's. Kinda wish I had the auto tranny too:ebiggrin:

Also highlighted the advantages of suspension lift vs no lift.

Noticed both your buddy and you did not have any oil sump guard protection whilst tackling that terrain. Maybe a future mod?

Cool videos;)

Thanks. Yeah, the 5-speed versus Auto is no debate. The auto kicks it's arse (unless we are talking low range 5-speed, then it's another story).

Not sure about the other car, but no skid plate for me unless it can support the weight of the car in my book. I have many many hundred of miles on terrain like this and never get close to touching my oil pan. Good spotters are always best. Skid plate should be absolutely last resort. If I'm in a situation where I need to bash my pan, I'll have bigger things to worry about (like dying, haha).

Yep, nice videos ! What camera do you use ?

As for the skid plate, it depends where you drive. In the sand it can be tricky as a big stone can be hidden and because you need more speed…bang !

If a stone is hidden under the sand, that means you would already have to be dragging the belly of the car over the sand, in which case, yes you would want a skid plate. But I would NEVER rely on a skid plate to protect me, it should be a absolute last resort sort of thing. All precautions exhausted, then "bam" perhaps.

Camera I use is a simple Canon SX50 camera, optical stabilization. We had to resort to a couple iPhone 5 cameras towards the end of the day as my Canon ran out of juice and I forgot to charge my backup battery.
