Border Track trip 19th August.

Seems like it has been a while since the last big trip. So just throwing the idea for another Robe trip out there, maybe October which was quite lovely weather last time. Of course Big Desert/Wyperfeld offers lots of good sand as well, old friends those two but like any old friend always worth the visit.

What I would ask is two dates from people; something shorter (day, overnighter or/and full weekend) in the next few months in addition to when a longer 4/5 day trip can fit into your schedule. To make Robe work I really think 5 days, 2 travel and 3 for the beach driving.

Feel free to offer alternative locations, I just offered Robe to get the ball rolling.

Ok so after a little bit of discussion this is looking like a Border Track trip in the first week of school holidays. Depart Wednesday return Sunday, possibly running into Monday for those with an extra day

Sorry I haven't posted earlier...

So the dates have been set for Fri 19/9 to Tues 23/9. I'm happy to stay longer if anyone else wants to & will be heading to the Flinders Ranges afterwards if anyone wants to come along

Would not mind joining you if possible.
Would be coming from Adelaide so where would be a good place to meet up given I am new to this part of the world and don`t know where the Border Track is.
Presume it is between SA and Vic.

dcoutback, shame you can't make it, would love to see the new Foz in action :(

ateday, great to have you along, do you have any mods? Eg sumpguard, lift. Border Tr is on the SA/Vic border :iconwink: Perhaps send Venom a PM to confirm.

Good news, Mum won't be moving till prob Nov so I'm clear for Border Tr & Flinders Ranges afterwards :monkeydance:

Have been reminded by my (much) better half of a couple of prior commitments so won`t be tagging along.
Have a 2002 MY03 Forester with 307000kms, SubaXtreme 40mm lift, Kings on rear, SubaXtreme sump guard, front and rear bars and 1.59 low range.
Have taken it to Cape York via OTL, Across Simpson twice , Bungles, Mereenie Loop, some of Victorian high country, Fraser Island a few times and now ready to explore South Australia.
I find it an extremely versatile vehicle and very happy with it.

Hi ateday!

Sounds like you have a very nice setup! Shame we won't be able to meet you this time around, but keep an eye out on the site (as well as ausubaru.com) as we're bound to have another chance next time.

Cheers,
Pedro.

Yeah mate that sounds very capable! :monkeydance:

After the Border Tr I'll be heading up to the Flinders. Possibly do SkyTrek & Arkaroola if you're interested

I`m happy with it although finding tyres is a pain.
The original G900`s were less than useless on dirt. Went flat at the mere sight of a dirt road.
Then I tried Kuhmo, then Coopers. Not happy with any of those at all.
Now using 215X65X16 Pirelli Scorpion STR`s and very happy with them.
Would like a more aggressive tread so might give Yokohama ATR`s or Michelin Latitude Cross a go next.
It never ends............................

Very happy with my Geolander ATs, given them a beating & still heaps of tread left after 40k kms

I'll second the Geolander ATs. Had them on my Outback and have fitted them to my Foz. Very capable. I always drop a rim size to get higher profile tyres.

(sorry for thread hijack)

OK so this is happening Friday! Camp and meetup point for Friday is Snowdrift Picnic Area (campground) on the Wirrengren Plain Track in Wyperfeld. It's fairly straightforward to get to Snowdrift from the Patchewollock Road.

The rest of the itinerary will be decided as we go but it is a Border Track trip.

A thought re: logistics.

Fruit fly exclusion zone.

If planning to camp on the Murray, you can't take fruit and veg north of about Hattah:

https://www.murrayriver.com.au/images/fruit-fly/tristate-aust-map.jpg

hence, it is a good idea to take only enough for night one, and restock in Mildura.

the spot on the Murray I have in mind to camp is in Ned's corner, so you have to go to Mildura to get there anyway.

https://www.nedscorner.com.au/

an added complication is that if proceeding from there to the northern section of border track, we cross into SA and can't take fruit and veg there either, so a second restock may be necessary in Renmark.

Another option is to abandon the Murray idea, and do border track south of Pinaroo. This would mean we could restock in Pinaroo.

Either way, I suggest only taking fruit and veg for the first night.

I wont be taking fresh fruit.

Will we doing much driving on bitumen?

I hope not, but if we do go to Murray, depending on how much time people have, there is a fair stint from Patchewollock to Mildura.

Rhys and I leaving soon: probably to St Arnaud tonight.

Good to know Greg!

I'm headed to snowdrift tonight; I don't see the point in hanging around St Arnaud for the first night - are you serious here?

My thoughts were that we were headed up through Underbool then cut through the Murrary Sunset NP (some route, haven't really checked it out thoroughly) then up to the corner on the vic side.

I'm keen to spend as little time as possible on the black top...

Anyway, message me what you're up to tonight Greg, I was hoping we'd have the crew together for a group departure from Snowdrift.

I'm currently behind in where I wanted to be in regards to packing - I was really fatigued last night so gave in and left it to tonight. So once home it's a packing exercise then hit the road as early as possible.

It's at least a 4 and a half hour drive for us from Shepp... And I doubt we'll be getting out early this friday :(

Cheers

Bennie
