Shipping a sump guard from Sydney to Melbourne

I have a small problem ...

A while ago, I bought and paid for a s/h SubaXtreme sump guard for our SG Forester. It is in Sydney. I am in Melbourne ... :(.

I had originally planned to stop there and pick it up when I picked up the trailer tent I had ordered from Kangaroo Tent City in North Parramatta. I have arranged for KTC to ship the tent to me today. At $260 for freight, it is far cheaper than dragging my trailer from here to Sydney and back (2,000 Kms), and paying for motel accommodation for two nights. I estimate the cost of petrol and accommodation alone would have been around $560 for the round trip.

BTW, anyone looking for reasonably priced accommodation around Rouse Hill in Sydney, try OK Caravan Park. 2 b/r cabin with linen for two people (in separate bedrooms), $107 per night. Lovely, helpful people too. Believe me, this is CHEAP for Sydney!

Now I have to arrange shipping my sump guard from Sydney to Melbourne.

Firstly, I need the accurate overall measurements for the SubaXtreme guard for the Forester SG Series II.
The OEM ABS guard is 110 x 64 x 8 cms.

Australia Post have a limit of 105 cms maximum length. If the maximum for the SubaXtreme guard is under this length (width ... ), then Aussie Post charge about $33, door to door. That's OK.

It looks to me as if the OEM guard is quite a bit wider than the SubaXtreme guard, but I don't know ...

Secondly, does anyone have the name of an alternative courier company that doesn't charge the Earth, if Aussie Post won't ship it?

FedEx don't do intra-country shipments here. They certainly managed a stunning job on two shipments from Georgia, USA, to us recently - 3.5 days, door to door!
 
I can stay in a nice 5 bedroom house with 3 car garage near Rouse Hill, for free. Well, free except for the mortgage and council rates, and water and gas and electricity and.... On second thoughts, maybe I should go and check out that caravan park!

My sumpguard, based on the Subaxtreme, is 855mm wide. This is about the same distance as the distance between the rails of the U-brace on the SG.

I know the feeling, being taxed on what one chooses to spend the income that one has already been taxed on ... depending on what one spends it on. After all, there isn't an on-going annual tax based on one's TV ...

I should have asked you if you would go to Kevin's and 'liberate' the guard and deliver it to KTC in North Parramatta. They have offered to put it in with the tent for the same price.

I had my sumpguard shipped via e-go from Adelaide to Perth for around $50 few years ago depot to depot
 
Mine was thrown out in the garbage Ratbag, otherwise I would. Perhaps someone else out there can help.

I checked them out for the tent and sun room - $359, compared with the KTC price of $260! I guess that KTC know who will handle these items at reasonable prices.
 
you should get the seller to package the sumpguard first ,then measure.
 
^ The seller hasn't got it any more. Someone picked it up for me about a month ago. He's got it ... . He lives a short drive from KTC, but he's not available ATM.

KTC were quite happy to chuck it in with the tent for the same price, but I have no way of getting it to them in North Parramatta :(.

If it doesn't ship tomorrow, it won't be leaving KTC until early next week.

KTC at North Parramatta are open 10-3 on Sundays.

Spoke to KTC this morning. They are holding off shipping the tent until Monday, and are expecting you on Sunday to give them the sump guard to pack with it ... :biggrin:.
