Can anyone tell me what carby this is? I can't seem to find and names/numbers on it.. It's on my EA-81 in my Brumby.. Am I right to assume it's the stock Hitachi?

You need to upload the images to your album here, or any other web hosting site, such as Flickr.

Then grab/copy the URL of the photo that you want to post (look at the photo properties, highlight the image name, including the .JPG extension, and press Ctrl+C to copy this to your computer clipboard), and paste it into your post using the 'Insert Image' icon at the top of the editing dialog box (place the cursor in the address box, then press Ctrl+V to paste; then press the ENTER key). The icon is yellow, with some mountains and a sun graphic at the top right of the icon.

Preview your post to make sure it looks how you want it to.

A tip: use images that are about 800x600 pixels to avoid causing it to expand the screen width. The latter makes reading posts on mobile phones, laptops, tablets, etc difficult :iconwink:.

Some in-depth instructions here:

Hope this helps.

^ Good, quick work, SH ... :iconwink: .

I removed the failed links in your OP to preserve your security on your own PC. I'm a bit hot on security ... :poke: .

BTW, I can't help ID your carby, sorry :(.

all good.. i'm looking at a weber upgrade but need to be sure of my current carby for the adapter plate

Sorry, can't help. Haven't used carby's for years. I think they suck.

SH, somewhere on the carburettor body there should be a manufacturer's name and part number. Alternatively, if it's the standard carby for that model/year, try looking up what that is on the net.

Wikipedia have a lot of information on the various engines.
e.g.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_EA_engine
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Leone

Another alternative is to take it to your favourite mechanic, and ask him what it is.

scarhead, it's a hitachi, the only other stock carb for your car was a weber-carter which was a single barrel. you are good to go with the adaptor plate for a hitachi manifold (the only one they make that i know of, if you had a weber-carter you would have to swap to the hitachi manifold to do the weber swap).
PS weber-carter is not to be confused with the weber 32/36 which is what you want. the weber-carter carb was a dog, the weber 32/36 is awesome. Do it!

I know Holden Gemini carbs bolt onto EA82 motors..more power and economy, good way to go if you can find one as they should also fit EA81's. They wouldnt be worth much from a wrecker haha. Be best if you try it before ya put hard cash down on one.

Lol :raz:

A Weber conversion is pretty popular. There's some threads on it on AUSubaru.

Another mod to look at is an electronic dizzy if yours doesn't already have one

Interesting...

Scarhead, probably the wrong forum to ask as *just* about everything is EFI here!

There are two different sizes of the Hitachi carbs - larger one for the EA82, smaller one for the EA81 (your engine). You need the adaptor plate that matches the EA81.

The weber will naturally go heaps better than the Hitachi - most people bag out the Hitachi but fail to realise they're talking about a carbie that has given flawless operation for +300k km without a rebuild.
Then they drop a reconditioned weber on and notice a huge difference. Much like going from a tired EA81/EA82 to an EJ conversion

Same deal.

Enjoy the weber, apparently it's awesome on the power, and on drinking the fuel quickly!

Cheers

Bennie
