haven't been round here for a while, but now that I need something ...........

I have just snapped the front swaybar on my 05 forester (one of the last kits supplied by Jodie apparently), it was going fine and then, cresting a lopsided dune, well it sounded like a big metalic rubber band might.

Any ideas for sourcing a supply would be greatly appreciated. Subaxtreme, in the current incarnation, doesn't handle lift kits. Scorpion are all out.

Has this happened to anyone else?

^ ditto. I snapped the tab on the control arm so I initially disconnected the SX sway bar and then eventually removed it completely.

ok i imagine if you dont mind body roll on the road.

Im not sure of the specs but Whitline do a range of sway bars for subis...i ave no idea if they have anythng that will suit a lift though, but worth looking at their website...

After installing the King springs I truely believe my car has less body roll with the springs and no rear sway bar than without the springs and a sway bar.

You could run the stock sway bar if you still have it. The only reason SX had to produce the new sway bar with the extended arms was to pass the engineering certificate in Qld. It was because of a possibility where the original sway and steering arm (I think) could come into contact when the suspension was fully extended.

But - disconnect it for offroad driving.

yep i reckon stiffer rear springs = same body role as with stock bar and springs, but more articulation

I'm with those guys, I had King springs and no sway bars and don't think the body roll was really noticable, I never told my mrs I had disconnected them and she never noticed any change. Plus I gained heaps in articulation, especially in the front.

it has taken awhile, but I've replaced the broken front swaybar with a standard one and taken it for a fair run - can confirm it works with the SX kit. thanks.

except it has broken again:cry:

this time the swaybar is Ok but it snapped the lug that it bolts onto, like yours Kevin, I guess. I haven't had a chance to get it sorted, but I felt I had to tell someone! Have been doing moderate offroading only.

I think it's trying to tell you something (go without a front sway) :iconwink:

The problem with the lug is that workshops are not keen to weld it back on the control arm because they may damge the control arm itself. I was told I would have to replace the control arm - bugger that - so next time I was out on a relative's farm we welded a big thick washer over the snapped lug - worked fine. But then I decided to remove the bar completely.

I have heard of a few people having this problem. So I put a support over that lug / weld to strengthen it.
So far, so good & its held up well.

This is the one on mine.

Or you could also do it like this one.

^ that's OK for the rear - the front is different of course :iconwink:

I recognise that 2nd pic, it looks strangely familiar!

Considering removing my sway bar and fitting strut blocks and firmer springs....is it a big job to remove the sway bar? It doesnt sound to hard but would appreciate some directions if possible.

thanks

I'm not sure for an XT because of the exhaust differences - but anyway for my '03 NA it's not difficult; remove the front subframe (just a few bolts); disconnect the endlinks; undo the 2 swaybar bushes and wiggle it out.
