Nice, would love to see more.:)

In regards to the red Forester in the 2nd video towards the end, would you know if it has stock/aftermarket diffs?

Cheers

Interesting videos!

I am not sure I understand the Mitsubishi's struggles in Video 1. What was that: water and mud underneath? The camera does not show it.

Video 2--the front differential of the red one definitely looked open to me.

Video 3: well, not volunteering to clean that car's undercarriage!

Nice vids

MiddleAgeSubie, all Subarus bar WRXs & some STi variants of other models have open front diffs. The SF Foz also has an open rear diff...a plated rear diff would have got him through in the second vid.

Looks like a rock slab in the 1st pic on a very steep track causing probs. If he'd driven through the brakes I reckon he'd have made it first go & made the Pajero look silly :monkeydance:

What made the red forester get through so easy in videos 2? Did it have more weight in the back which allowed the rear wheels to stay on the ground or was it a better line?

The red and green Foz's have open front diffs and OEM rear vlsd's.

I tried to pass on idle with a 45 angle to make the suspensions work the max…but it was too deep and the Quaife's couldn't do their job…wheel spin…in fact it was the wrong line and I didn't apply the brakes to "lock" the diffs !

The red Foz was pretty heavy and picked a more parallel line and did it easy !

OK, more vids to come !

Hi NachaLuva,

I was simply answering a post above.

Since VDC acts as e-differentials to say that all Subarus are open diff misses the point. VDC fully stops any spinning wheel in 2 sec. With xmode this is supposed to happen faster. The two sec is fm my experience.

Video 5 - Always good to see a Subaru recovering a large army style vehicle:ebiggrin:.

With your Quaife, using the brakes will send more torque to the wheel with grip, a big advantage over plated LSDs. Just got to anticipate when you need to, or keep your left foot hovering above the brake (thats what I do now)

No probs, I wasnt attacking you, sorry if it seemed that way...

2 secs is a long time, even 1/4 that is enough to make you lose all momentum on a steep, loose climb, requiring an often difficult reverse all the way back down.

Why not have LSDs and VDC? Best of both worlds!!!:monkeydance:

I just do not know if it is necessary.

On the worst hill I have done, the car halted twice because I was not going fast enough. It is not a traditional LR and it does need just a bit of speed. On both occasions, however, it was able to resume climbing without giving up an inch. The VDC did all the work.

I certainly do not have your experience, but I have backed up once only, out of a short sandy+rocky wash exit. Car went up without trouble after I pointed the wheels just a bit differently. Similarly, I have seen a video of a Rubicon, fully locked, failing to get through a visually unremarkable for a Rubicon step. Minor adjustment allowed it to get through easily.

We will see what the future brings. For now, I have not felt the lack of LSDs.
