I only cleaned the one in SWMBO's SH. When it went back in, it had a piece of vacuum cleaner bag liner on top of it to protect it from getting clogged up again.

Did the same with my SG cabin filter. IIRC, it had a tree and weeds growing in it ... :rotfl:.
It was completely flat across the top, with no indication that it even had ribs!

Both work fine, and the air con temperature is within spec for both after the event.

every time I read about a cabin filter, I remember I don't have one. Should get around to that one day.

Thats heaps cheaper. Also try messaging these guys, pretty sure they do a filter for SH (this listing is for SG)

Thanks for the tip NachaLuva I did not think of contacting them. I have purchased SG filters from this vendor.

RB you will die of some terrible disease :rotfl:

Have not had a cabin filter for years.
I was not aware of this until a service at 200k kms (now 300+) when this fact was mentioned in the report.
Who, how and when it was taken out I have no idea as it is not something I would normally look at.
It does not seem to have caused me, the aircon or the car any problems except that there is a faint whiff of dust when I first turn the aircon on. Given the amount of dirt roads I have driven on I don`t find this surprising.
Is it likely to be a problem to me, car or aircon by not having one?
Aircon seems to work fine and has had no repairs done in the life of the car which I purchased new in 2002.

Yup. I've already got it.

It's called "life" ... :poke:  :rotfl:
It's a sexually transmitted disease, which is invariably fatal ... :iconwink:.

BTW, I will almost certainly still be in Melbourne next week, so will probably see you at the club next Tuesday ...

The aircon will actually work better without it but you wont have any filtering of cabin air. Of particular importance if you drive through a swarm of bees! (don't laugh, I've done it!) :rotfl:

That could almost be an unpleasant experience.
In all my years, and that`s a lot, of driving with the 2 by 60, or 2 by 110 these days, type of air con nothing like that ever happened to me.....

G'day RB,

I have a ski club AGM around the corner so I won't get there till late. I plan to bring bring my Gorilla lift and a spare SG filter I got for SteveMY07, he lent me one.
Still looking for a cheap SH filter, but thought I would wait until I pull it out and see if I can clean it. I need to post a photo of the SG filter I replaced the other day. In my other post I showed the used filter against the new filter.
After throwing it our I had a brain wave:biggrin: and got it out of the bin and gave it a blast with the garden hose. Came up really good so I will use that in my 2002 and save the new one for another day :)

Ateday,
If you don't have a filter your fan will fill up with crap and you will get a cabin full of road dust if you drive on a lot of unmade roads.

Way back when flow through ventilation was first put in cars mid 1960s, the manufacturers didn't even put any kind of screen between the inlet and the outlets :(.

I once got a (still alight) cigarette butt in the car with me ...
Fortunately, my pet funnel web spider that lived on the floor ate it before it could burn me ... :iconwink: . Just kidding about the funnel web spider (but not about the cigarette butt!).

G`Day havachat,
The Simpson twice, Cape York once and no obvious dust build up yet.
Maybe the corrugations shake it all off.
Could be worth pulling the fan out and cleaning it though or at least looking at it.

What a buzz that must have been

Is it possible to fit a cabin air filter to a SF? Is there already a slot to put it in?

Try this video, i'm sure it's an SF Forester that he is doing it too.

Yea you can mate, one screw and the cover comes out. I checked on mine once and pulled out a compartment full of pine needles...I now no longer have that nice pine fresh smell.

hm, my missus's car smells like gum trees, all the time, it's really frustrating, i might see if i can get a filter for her little go-mobile too...
