Anyone ever heard of the Trans Am Trail? It's dirt roads across the US fro western North Carolina to Oregon. Dirt roads, trails, foire roads. Usually motorcyclists, mountain bikers and jeepers.
I am wondering about the ability of an 05 Outback to tackle this route.
It intrigyes me.

I did the route on a DRZ400S in 2009. There are a lot of sections that could be easily done by your OB. One of the most technical sections was Hancock Pass, it's been rerouted I think tho.
LMK if ya need maps.

A large percentage of the TAT is gravel.

But there's more side trails to check out in Colorado than anyone could ever do in a lifetime.
This is an old stagecoach route, just off the TAT, that's open to tagged vehicles.

A few years ago the TAT went from Jellico Tn to Port Orford Oregon, recently it was rerouted from Tellico Tn to Oregon. A friend of mine from WV has been working with Sam, the originator of the TAT, to add new sections thru NC,Va,WV and Pa to make it to the Atlantic coast.
There are other dual sport routes already as well, the TWVT, which is the Trans West virginia Trail. The TET, which is the Trans Eastern Trail. It runs from Carabelle Fla. to Vermont, mostly sand and gravel rds!
Most of my Forester vids are done on the TWVT.

GREAT! now you have me all excited to do this, I just posted on SF.org requesting info. If you're looking to do all of it, ask Bluefox for some pointers for Black Bear pass and MOAB as he's done a good bit of it in his Forester.

Good morning Gravel Rocks and Mr Turbo.

Thanks for the information and welcome.
I haven't been on this site for a few days.
Gravel Rocks, That is a nice Suzuki. What mods have you done to it?
In the 80s I lived in southern California and played in the desert quite a bit on a very modified Honda XR500R. Raced Barstow to Vegas 4 times and actually finished twice.
I would love to see your maps if its convenient.
PM me and I will give you my email.
Thanks,

Howdy and :welcome: NC Native!!!

Where abouts in the state are you located? I'm just outside of Asheville.

I use to live near Asheville too, Hendersonville/Mills River. I now live in north alabama. Not many mountains around here to play on.

Oh, no longer in NC. Mills River area is very nice, plenty of mountains there.:) Well, I hope Alabama is treating you well, hopefully you get to the mountains every once in a while.

I do, my mom live in Winston, and going thru the gorge is a MUST when I go home.

And I forgot to thank yall for the "Welcome"
