So I am planning on lifting my fozzy and I want to run this tire-> COOPER DISCOVERER A/T3 (SUV) 235/60/17 | Big O Tires carries the DISCOVERER A/T3 (SUV) by COOPER in 235/60/17
Cooper discoverer in a 235 60 17 thats the smallest size they offer. I know Ill have issues with the rear spring perch but if I run a 17x8 with something like a 30 offset will that make it clear the spring perch? Will it still have fitment issues? I know members on here have run the yoko geolanders in a 225 60 17 on a 45 offset wheel without much problem. I am just wondering if a 225 60 17 fit how close was it? Will a 235 60 17 fit?
Reason for the 17 wheel is because I swapped to Legacy front brakes and I can't run a smaller diameter wheel now. I don't want to go back to stock brakes because I really like the stopping power of the LGT brakes.

Here is the research I've done:
https://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f72/sh-biggest-tire-size-i-measured-76762/

There is only one member that I know of on here that ran this tire and size but it was on a 09 and I have a 05 xt. Any assistance is appreciated. Worst case Ill just get the yoko geolanders and a 45offset wheel. Ive had the yoke's before and I wasn't super enthralled with the off road performance. they were just meh in my opinion.

Im thinking of running a 42 offset 17x7.5 wheel and the Cooper discoverers.

G'day & Welcome! Yes, you are limited by the spring perch (assuming you are lifting with strut-top blocks)

Just as well maybe because the bush folk say "Coopers, thems for city folks!"

It should just fit but don't just take my word for it :p .

I know someone running 225/70/16 on his SG which are bigger in diameter, only 10mm smaller width wise. Just fits. Only has about 40mm of lift too. On stock rims.

You might have to get bit more offset to avoid rubbing which could be quite bad on the inside of the strut for a while

Have you seen this? You are 100% sure its 225 70 16? Any chance you could help a subie enthusiast out and make sure by asking or double checking his setup? If this is true I may risk it and try it. Worst case is I'm out 600$ until I can re sale them. I think I'm going to run a 42 offset rim which is +6mm different from the stock wheels. Should give me a bit more distance from the strut.

Let me know if you don't mind double checking for me and seeing if that is the size. Based on the tire calculator I should be able to run these tires.

G'day CoDannyC & :welcome: to ORS.
I'll also 2nd what others have said re the spring perch.
As it stays at the same height, even after you have it lifted.

Regards

CoD, I am running 225/70R16 on standard 16 inch wheels. Clearance was about 2mm to rear spring perch.

I had to remove front fender inner liners and beat the metal seam flat.

Hope this helps.

It "could" fit, depends on the make, I know that the BF AT's in that size wouldn't fit.

Well based on this tire calculator from tire rack its more then half an inch smaller in height then the 225 70 16 and about half an inch wider. plus its smaller in diameter and circumference. So really the only difference is that its half an inch wider then the 225 70 16. If you are running the 225 70 16 on stock wheels which are 48 offset I can run a 40 or 42 offset which will counter the 235 60 17 being half an inch wider.
Here is the tire calculator:
........................225 70 16....vs.....235 60 17........Difference
Sidewall height:____6.2______________5.55_______ -0.65
Section width:_____8.86_____________9.25________ 0.39
Overall Diameter:__28.4_____________28.1________ -.03
Circumference:____89.23____________88.29_______-0.94

I have 225/70R16 on standard SG rims with 37mm lift blocks.

Rear clearance to the rear spring perch was 2mm.

I can just poke my little finger between the tyre and strut if that helps gauge width.

I had to remove fender inner liners and beat the seam flat in the front. Heat it with a heat gun first so the paint dosent crack.

Hope that helps.
