Replacing key battery

Hi
I have just replaced the battery in my key remote and it doesn't work now. Is there a reprogram procedure? My car is an 03 forester x. Any info would be muchly appreciated .

Have you used the right size and type of battery?

Have you put it in the right way around? When I checked this for someone with my MY06 key, I put the battery back in the wrong way around, first up. Took it out and put it in the right way and it then just worked - i.e. the key didn't forget its settings.

Do you have the separate remote fob, or is it integral with the key?

There is a thread/post on here somewhere about re-programming the key to the immobiliser/remote entry module, but it shouldn't be necessary after just changing the battery in the key.

I've changed batteries in my MY'03 a few times - no issues

The new battery could be flat. When replaced mine a couple of months ago one of the new ones did not work. The battery was flat ! As RB said make sure it is the right way round too.

Key battery

The battery is in the right way just have to check its state of charge.
