G'day all,

Yesterday's trip along the Mundaring powerlines was supposed to be a nice cruisy day out and an introduction to offroading for rookie Twinklz.

RedXS and I had driven the track the previous weekend with other members and weren't too worried about taking standard cars and inexperienced drivers through it.

Thanks to the excellent (not) navigational skills of our fearless leader RedXS, the 'new track' at the end turned into about 3 hours of paint scraping through the bush and crawling down some very nasty rocks with little-to-no idea of where we were or where we were going.

Miraculously, despite some severe punishment, all three cars (98' Forester, '06 Forester and '93 L series, all totally standard) made it through relatively unscathed.

To be perfectly honest, despite everything, a wonderful day was had by all, even my girlfriend who came along on the condition that it was 'nice and easy' (oops).

I will attempt to get a satellite photo off google to show where we went and also to get the pics and videos uploaded ASAP

Thanks for a great day Twinklz and Red, hope to see you out there again soon (with a map this time!)

- Tom

Attempts to come up with TopGear-based nicknames were largely successful

And the cars have names too...except for Red's, which I now christen Satan

This hill scared off the Forries, so Scooby and I took Red for a ride to show him how it's done (its in the videos).

Unfortunately no video or photos were taken of possibly the most difficult and dangerous climb of the day, as it snuck upon us and well, if we stopped we wouldn't have started again.
lets just say we stopped afterward for a half hour damage check and let that be testament to it.

if the photos aren't showing, just right click the little icon and select "open in new tab"

A is where we started and B is where we finished. Some will recognise A as being near the clearing near the end of Powerlines

And my car was being refered to as Jesus because its exhaust started rattling and then stopped, its taillight stopped working and the started working again, and it scraches have now been mended by the magic of Mother scratch remover.

I'm not sure why I was called Jeremy Clarkson, I got the least damage so was clearly the most sensible and I only made it into 5th twice.

The least damage he says, how many bits of plastic fell off or came loose? :P

Well mines in the best condition at the moment as the plastic is back in place. And only one piece of plastic was mine, not sure who the others is. Exhaust is quiet, scratches are gone, taillight is working, fuel tank is dentless, interior and exterior are clean.

Great vids t.ridden :)

The track in the last vid sure looked like fun indeed I must say :raz:

Thanks Mr Turbo, I'll pass the compliment onto my camerawoman :)

would definitely be more difficult in the winter and/or going the other direction

BTW, some nice shots, and interesting videos.

I was particularly interested in how well the 2006 SG series II handled things, as it's the very model I drive. Some pretty nasty looking stuff there ...

When is the next trip guys? I'm keen to take my foz out. ..
And I'm keen to see you're foz in action!
There is the camp trip 28-2,
I think t.ridden wanted to have a look at pines, so maybe we could do that next weekend?

I was particularly interested in how well the 2006 SG series II handled things, as it's the very model I drive. Some pretty nasty looking stuff there ...
A 2006 SG series II is the best forry out there if I say so myself:ebiggrin:

Gidday Red

A 2006 SG series II is the best forry out there if I say so myself:ebiggrin:

You'll get no argument from me about that ...

I have found out just how good my choice was AFTER I bought it!

I did deliberately choose the MY06 or MY07, partly for the better equipment, partly for it being the "right" age and mileage, partly for the 5MT/DR (and the ratios), partly for the torque and power figures that came with the EJ-25 (specially compared with torque and power to weight ratio and gearing compared with our 2.2L Camry and EJ-18 Impreza). I was after something that had plenty of jump, but definitely didn't want a turbo of any description.

It wasn't until afterwards that I found out about the tremendous improvements made in the EJ-253 donk, the stronger gearbox and better synchro in the series II, and the vLSD at the back. These make the models that have them really stand out from the common ruck (up until the MY10 SH).

So partly a good choice on my part, and partly good fortune.

The forester that is now my red xs was the newest car that I could afford, so I had a choice of spending all my money on a series II or saving about $1000 on a series I. After test driving many series I's the red series II was just so much nicer to drive, everything felt smoother and the engine was noticeably more powerful ... so it was an easy choice after a few test drives. And after seeing newer foresters and how much taller and less sporty they look, I think I will keep mine a very long time.

Thanks to the photographer, I now have a new desktop!

Can someone link me to the camp trip thread? Where and how long for. Ill only have the weekend, prob can't get time off work.

I gotta strip my engine before I go anywhere too. Haven't driven the foz in 2 weeks as I've been using my brumby. I should of learnt my lesson by now. Don't f*** with it if it ain't broken haha.

Been so flat out I haven't had time to jump on here much.

As for the SG thing, I really wouldn't bother unless it was turbo. Subaru build amazing factory turbo vehicles that are unmatchedto anything else on the road in their class.
The N/A's are just so limiting in comparison. Having just poured 3.5 grand into rebuilding a non turbo I'll stick with it but never again. My 2 cents worth anyway.
