Hey guys, I recently purchased a cargo barrier for my '98 second hand. I don't have the fitting instructions Subaru, ARB and Milford can't help me, so I was wondering if anyone with a 97-02 with a cargo barrier could take pictures of the barrier anchor points? I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Twinklz.

Thanks man, I searched before I posted this thread, I don't feel confident putting it in with the photos I've seen, I really need some close ups of the bolts and how it fits. A picture of the fitting instructions would be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks

I have the later model SG and there are no factory points for the cargo barrier.

At the bottom I lined it up and drilled a hole strait through the wheel arch and put a washer and nut on the inside of the wheel arch - used a bit of hot glue to hold them in place made it a one person job.

For the top you are meant to drill into the frame and put in backing plates. It requires a couple of big holes through the plastic trims and steel - didn’t like that. So I made up some new arms and bent them so that I could use the child restraint with bolts - not legal in Australia but I don’t have kids using the restraints any more. If a cop wants to give me a sticker fine I will take it out get the car inspected and put it back in.

Would you be able too post pictures please? I'll ne doing it with my girlfriends dad, so we'll just copy what you did, along with the modifications too allow me too swing the bottom part up.

Thanks in advance

BTW, Stephen

The cost of buying a Milford fitting kit and having an existing barrier fitted is just about more expensive than buying a new barrier and having it fitted!!

Why people don't just leave the barrier in the vehicle it was fitted to is beyond me!

Fortunately our SH had previously had a barrier professionally (??) fitted, so all I had to do was buy a barrier for it from Fleabay. Cost me $90, and a trip to Brunswick.

I have a barrier for my SG series II, but no fitting points, so I will go down the same path as others and use the front/bottom cargo tie-down points (the ones just behind the rear seats), and make up new arms for the top to reach to the child restraint mounting points attached to the rear hatch frame.

When I am travelling, the rear seat belts would always be connected through the holes in the barrier, and this is probably a stronger anchorage than the bolts provide! The seatbelts are rated to adequately restrain over 100 kgs each, and presumably the seat backs will as well. This is far more than the rating of the Milford barrier, at 60 kgs ...

The rear I mounted mine to the tie down points, removed the ancors and put in a right angle bracket out of high tensile steal. and bent high tensile straps to the child restraint points in the rear. the tie downs are a standard M6, the child restrains are a 5/16 whitworth.

The "actual" way to fit the barrier has milford mounting plates that ancor using a two plate clamp that spreads the load more evenly through the body, they mount to the steal of the boot floor and the sill in the roof. there's some photos of the mounting points i used in the thread Ratbag posted.

the Milford fitting kit is $160 last i called. You might find one at a wreckers if you do manage to the bolts are all M10 1.25

You're a life saver man, thank you so much, I'll post pics when I've installed it, maybe it'll be done in time for this camping trip coming up :-D
