Yep, its stinkin hot in south east Oz. As the US recovers from the "big freeze", we're heading into a record breaking heat wave. In Melb we'll have 4 consecutive days over 40deg.

Adelaide hit 45 deg today, 45 again tomorrow & 46 Thurs with another day over 40 on Friday.

Thats 115F for our US members.

Its also very low humidity, combined with a wet winter so lots of growth, the conditions are set for horrible fire conditions. I just hope & pray not another Black Saturday (that was 47deg in Melb, hotter around the state with only 5% humidity & cyclone cat 2 winds following a week of 3 consecutive days over 43 to dry everything out...a previously thought not possible set of conditions. The fire danger was literally off the chart!)

So everyone take care, have your fire plan in place & keep hydrated. Also look out for others...

I live in the Adelaide Hills and it was a very much held breath day at work watching an electrical storm roll in while it was 45 degrees! about 30 small fires were controlled by the CFS today alone!

Absolute heroes those guys and girls! True Aussie legends!

Made for some great lightning storms to watch!

More lightning storms with little or no rain predicted for next 2 days. These are infamous for starting fires due to lightning strike on tinder dry grass.

Very bad fire conditions till the weekend :shake:

Freeze? Not everywhere;)

We call that home around here:rotfl:

Wife and I went to New Mexico, drove on perfectly dry and super easy unpaved roads to great places--I had hoped for some mud/snow though:( Had to go over 10,000 feet to just see some real snow....

29 in Sydney today, but 36 in the outer suburbs. Aparently warm water in the Indian Ocean is responsible for the weather. With all the earth quake activity in the region the last few years, I would not be surprised if a number of undersea volcanoes are responsible for heating the water and thus affecting the temperature. Hoping for lots of lightning- great for business!

It hit 43.7°C here late yesterday arvo.

It was still 33 at midnight, and 32.2 at 0100H.

With our power out from 1825H last night until around 1150H this morning (with two short respites, one last night for 23 mins, one this AM for about 60 mins), we had a pretty miserable night.

Cold showers and no fans don't really suit me very well ... :(.

I have now fixed both our main computers; twice :mob: :bananagunner:

I thought Mexicans would be used to the heat :iconwink:

Haha :raspberry:

Melb 43 yest, 44 today & tomorrow, 42 Fri :(

Its Adelaide that really cops the heat: 45 yest, 46 today & 46 again tomorrow. Bit cooler on Fri, only 40 :rolleyessarcastic:

Last year they had several heatwaves of over 40 over many consecutive days.

Hey guys we could be in real trouble here, there is a fire down the road and I am sitting on my balcony watching lightening strikes in the National park behind us.
Can you turn your air conditioners off (sorry) don't want the power going down!

Was only about 28C in Toowoomba the last few days and thank goodness we were away down at the Blue Mts a week and a half ago when it was 39C in Toowoomba. The constant 15C in the Jenolan Caves was quite bearable.....

Actually it's so cool here this evening that I have had to close all the house up. That's typical of Toowoomba's nights.

Having lived at Thargomindah as a kid I know all about hot days (and nights - and duststorms). At least it's not humid like my home in Cairns. Queensland coastal humidity is the worst - hate it.

All good last night, but when you live 500 mtrs from a national park you have reason to get concerned. Two more days of 40 plus heat then hopefully relief!

Hope nothing comes of it with no fires arising from the lightning strikes mate.

Regards
Mr Turbo

When I was a kid growing up in the Riverina (junction of Murray & Murrumbidgee area) 115F was a normal summer for us, if we didn't hit 115 - 118 it wasn't considered a summer and A/C was unheard of in those days and so were ceiling fans as we know them today, they were for the very rich only.

Take a tablespoon of cement and HTFU.

P.S.
This comes courtesy of a soft city dweller these days who adores his A/C.
