Hi there,

need some help/ info on what possible cause/ how best to fix this.

little while ago i was driving when the cruise control cut out and the orange engine light came up on the dash lights, as well as the "cruise" light flashing as well.

is it just that the cruise control has stopped working or do you think there might be other underlying issues?

is this a diy fix, or an auto-electrician issue?

AFAIK it is how your Subaru gives you a warning that something has happened to cause the ECU to read a fault. it is nothing to do with the cruise control - that green flashing light is just part of the way to bring it to your attention, You need to get the fault code read, then the code cleared and perhaps to get the fault fixed. For example in the 06/07 Subaru turbos the secondary air pump would eventually get damaged because reed valves in the exhaust would eventually corrode allowing muck to get up to the pump and wreck it. Subaru liked to charge around $4500 to replace everything. When the valves stuck open the orange engine light & green cruise light would come on. They could be cleared but would come back on at the next cold start when the air pump would try to work again. So something has happened in some system of your car to make them come on. It could be nothing that needs fixing though. It's happened to me twice with mine and when I read the codes (I have the Ezy-Flash Pro device for doing different tunes & it also includes code reading & clearing and high speed data logging) there were none to read and nothing to fix. In fact I drove all the way home from Brisbane with them on, left the car overnight and the next morning when I started it they were gone.

Cheers guzzla. it's been flashing at me for 2 years, but i got a yellow sticker for my drivers side window not working. got that fixed and now they pull me up when it went over the pits this morning for this engine light on the dash.
to say i'm peeved is a massive understatement.

LOL understatement of the year, or is that 2 years
As mentioned above you need an OBD2 scan tool which reads the car's computer to tell what is causing the error code.
You shouldn't have to pay to get the fault read, the fix however may require $ depending on what it is.
I suggest taking it to Stechnic in Maddington who are Subaru specialists

stilson: when the info from today's pits check goes through the system so my sticker can be extended (they said 24 - 48 hours, after orginally saying to me it would be pretty much instant), and depending on when Kalamunda autoelectrics can get me in around my work roster... if they cant, may well take you up on your offer!

Lefty: yeh, in the scheme of things in my world, 2 years is a pretty recent timeframe. might have been only 18 months. :)
