The next episode of Pat Callinans 4WD is on the Anne Beadell Hwy. Should be a good one to watch. Its one of the classic Aussie tracks, covering 1,340 km from Coober Pedy, South Australia to Laverton, Western Australia.

Sunday 22/12, 12:30-1:30pm, Ch10

Thanks for that, I'll make sure I watch it.
I like Pat Callinans show, I just wish it would be a little less of a Nissan and ARB ad but they definitely do cover some good stuff.

Thanks for the heads up NachaLuva :)
I might just have to tune in to that I think :raz:

Funny, I was just watching it earlier today. I enjoyed it even though it was a bit of an ARB / Nissan infomercial.

None of the tracks looked too hard for most of us here - one of the main challenges being carrying enough fuel for 1340 odd km.

Have any of you done it?

Sounds like an exciting thing to do (well, except for carrying all the extra fuel part).

I do enjoy the PC shows, but agree about the advertising. Missed this one unfortunately.

Any of you watch All 4 Adventure? I enjoy their episodes heaps more, as their way more adventurous and get into some pretty tight spots.

Recorded it, been doing my Xmas shopping so going to sit down & watch it now

I just fast forward through the numerous infomercial bits :iconwink:

Dulagarl has done it, IIRC busted a rear strut

I like them too, they have lots of fun but I wish they showed more 4WDing.

Have you noticed how top heavy esp to the rear they are? Makes you appreciate a Subie's low COG

Its a pretty serious track, not to be taken lightly. Although there is prob more traffic on it nowadays, its still VERY remote. You must be fully self-sufficient, not just with food/water/fuel/spares but also the tools & ability for bush mechanics as required to get out of trouble.

True. I had 120 kgs of salt in the back of Roo2 yesterday. Plus about another 20 kgs of other crap. Pushed the rear down from around 410 mm to 394 mm. It is only about 1.5 kms from the pool shop, so not much time for the SLS to pump itself up, I guess.

Still and all, that sort of load pushes it pretty close to the maximum if one has four people on board.

Quite. Just like all of outback Oz.

To tackle that track, one would need at least 100-120 L of fuel all up. 4x 20L jerrycans. Perhaps 5x. That's a lot of weight. Probably more, as a safety margin. That really needs one to have a trailer ...

Then, as you rightly point out, there's water, food, medical supplies, spare tyres, mechanical spares, camping gear. They all need room, and add a lot of weight. Best to have that volume and mass on another axle and set of wheels ... just IMHO.

Yeah they sure carry a good load! I just love hearing the sound of that v8 cruiser!

One of them rolls during a recovery in an upcoming episode!

I was a bit disappointed with the Anne Beadell Hwy episode. They didnt show that much of the track, more of the attractions along the track. The double episode on the Old Telegraph Tr in Cape York (OTT) was much better, prob the best they've done. Same with Fraser I, tracks around Melbourne, Flinders Ranges.
