Just upgraded to IE11 and as usual stuff is different.
My problem I am trying to fix is that it auto logs me out of websites...like this one that I don't log out of...annoying...anyone got any ideas on how to stop it doing that??
Thanks.

No....don't want to do that. There must be a fix...it never used to do it. I also upgraded to the latest version of Norton 360 and at the moment I am not sure what is doing what. I tried a fix re cookies on IE but it is still doing it but on this session it has only logged me out of this site and nothing else at the moment.

What version of Windows do you have Silver? .. and maybe it is Norton not windows causing it?

Windows7...it's got to be IE...I never had this happen before..it's only since I updated to IE11...doesn't make sense that it would be anything else...it didn't happen after I updated the Norton 360 version. Pain in the a..e!!!!!!!

Some people hate Norton with a passion. Its often considered a virus by both users & other anti-malware. It often causes conflicts (not sure but this may be whats happening with IE11) & is notoriously difficult to remove :(

Good luck, hope you can get it working :iconwink:

I have never had a problem removing Norton from friends PC's with the Symantec Removal Tool, I hate Norton's with a passion by the way. :catfight:

Years ago Norton was very good, today it is close to being a virus. Peter Norton is long gone and it has been down hill since then. I'd recommend Eset NOD 32 instead.

I love Norton. Never been a problem with it and I've used it for years. Not ever had a virus or attack and it has not slowed my computer. Every one else I know that uses it has never had a problem.
I can remember my nephew trying to fix my sisters machine and the first thing he did was ramble on about Norton and how rubbish it was and on he went.....until he found that Norton had nothing to do with the problem...then he was remarkable quiet.
I suppose if you are not using it then it would be fairly hard to know if it is rubbish or not...just a thought.
Anyway....I did the 'allow cookie sessions' in internet options ...although I had already done it twice...but it didn't log me out of this site yesterday or gmail but it has logged me out of a couple of others.
I'll keep working on it.
Thanks for the replys.

Gidday Silver

I'm one of those who reckon Peter Norton would spin in his grave with what Computer Associates have done to his fine products ... Except that he isn't dead yet, AFAIK.

It has slowed every computer I've removed it from to a crawl, and isn't all that effective as a/v and a/m s/w. Also extremely difficult to get rid of!

However, I doubt that it is causing your problem.

Open IE and clear your cookie cache. That will probably fix it.
You may have to enter your passwords again.
You may have to untick the box that preserves your favourite web sites from this clear out.

As I said...never had a problem....my computer...to me.... seems fine...it's never played up,loads quick ...as far as I am aware all is good.
I cleared everything...I do this at the start of every month but have not done it since this bloody update.
In ...Internet options>Privacy>Advanced..i ticked 'override automatic cookie handling' and 'always allow session cookies' is this correct?
I've signed in to sites I keep open and will shut it down without a quick scan like I usually do.

G'day again Silver

You need to allow cookies for certain sites, not globally.

Always disallow third party cookies (globally). Always make them ask ... It's a bit of a PITA, but otherwise your computer is open to all sorts of nasty stuff.

Apart from that, try the URL in Scooby2's post upthread. It looks as if it might tell you what you need to know.

IE has become so flaming obscure that I have changed to Opera for general browsing.

Firefox is a good browser, but they do not appear to take security very seriously, IMO.

I wouldn't use any software from Google. They consider "security" to be the same as "advertising". Not unlike Facebook in that regard ... And both of these companies have been found guilty of security breaches of their customers in almost every legal jurisdiction in the world. Speaks for itself, IMO.

Well every seemed to stay logged in that I want.
I don't really understand the cookie thing. By that I mean which to allow and not allow. I think I have always let the settings decide. I can't be bothered saying yes/no all the time.Never had trouble before. I read the link but it's a bit foreign to me.
I do lots of surveys and have one site that has a tracking thing in it for which I get points(money) over the year. It does not bother me and is from a reputable site.
Over the years I have sorted the survey sites and weeded out the rubbish and never get spam or unwanted emails. I earn around 1500 per year, cash or gift cards, from these sites and some surveys are in fact quite good.
I also use the 'flybuys' toolbar which searches with yahoo7 and they give you points...I use this until I reach maximum points for the month and then disable it...same with frequent flyers toolbar.
Interestingly...the toolbar opens but not the search box so I can't search with either of them.
It seemed ok so I will see what happens in the next session.

I have been using NOD32 and nothing but since 1990.

Fixed it. It was not IE. I had upgraded the version of Norton 360 I was using and it had a default setting to close web pages. Something in the cookie setting. I must have done it in the previous version and had forgot.
All good.

You will be fine leaving cookies on auto. I do with all my PC's and have never had a virus. Just don't be looking at pages you shouldn't. :raz:

Norton used to be rubbish, slowing computers to a crawl. However these days it doesn't seem to have a serious performance effect as modern computers are far more powerful. IMO no antivirus software is fully effective on its own. Malwarebytes is your friend.

I had to set it to 'ignore' tracking cookies. The first of the month I use IE to delete my browsing history and tick all the boxes. After each session I do a quick scan and probably about every 2 weeks I do a full system scan. Works well. I also do regular 'clean ups' and defrags.

I can say this about Norton. I have used it for years and never had a problem. My computer works well and gives me no trouble.
I usually wait until there is a deal going with Norton and then buy a 3 user one. In fact I just got a 5 user one yesterday for a great price. I then use it and give one to my sister and one to my son so we all get a good deal. My mate also uses it and none of us have ever had any problems.
I don't know a lot about computers but I have got computers working better by simply deleting all the rubbish programs that come with shop bought computers and the ones that people load up and never use and also doing the general maintenance like clean ups and defrags.
The people I know that have had problems have all used free antivirus and been looking at sites that we all know are bad.:poke:
It stands to reason that free stuff is a mild version of what they want you to pay for. Just like fishing...they are using a bait!!
If you do what I do you generally won't pay more than $20 per year for a antivirus subscription. Norton have $40 of some versions now.
I can only go on experience and mine has been all good.
