News from the Australian Confederation of Motor Clubs Inc NSW.

Hi to All,
The ACMC Inc has been working extremely hard over the last few months and we apologize for the lack of communication in this period on this FB page.
However the VSWG Group (Vehicle Standards Working Group NSW) along with the RMS NSW have finally been able to finish much needed documents for the Motor Enthusiasts of NSW !
The ACMC Inc are totally committed to keeping Motoring Enthusiasts on the road with fair reasonable and workable guidelines for Vehicle Modifications well into the future.
Particular thanks must go out to the Honorable Duncan Gay MLC Roads Minister for NSW ... also Mr Alan Hay Patron to the ACMC Inc, both Duncan & Alan provided the means for us to move forward and establish these much needed and overdue tools to get the job done and the VSWG group have done a momentous job !
Congratulations to each hard working volunteer on the these working group teams both from the ACMC Inc, Associations & the RMS NSW.

VSI 6 - Gazettal List for NSW Vehicle Modifiers.
This explains in plain English what the people of NSW can do to a car before a Certification is required.
This document was constructed with Safety and common sense in mind at all times ..... but also allowing for as much relaxation to these guidelines as possible as not to restrict the vehicle owners freedom to modify to personal tastes BEFORE they need to step into certification requirements.

Thanks for that, Kevin.

Interesting about the tyre sizes at page 7, item 13.

This would legally allow replacement of the tyres on SWMBO's SH (225/55 17) with 225/65 17, which would also make her speedo more accurate ... It should also make her car much more comfortable!

With Roo2, I could replace the 215/60 16 with 215/70 16. That gets me into Bridgestone Dueller sizes, among others.

It seems far more sensible to base these things on percentages, rather than the absolute measurements we are currently bound by. After all, increasing the tyre diameter on a Mini (10" rims) by 25 mm is a somewhat greater percentage change than increasing the diameter of a 16 or 17 inch rim/tyre by the same absolute amount.

It will be interesting to see whether other States go along with this.

Thanks for that info Kevin.

I've saved it for future reference & will have a proper read of it when I get a little more time.

Regards
Mr Turbo

Yeah, Mr T, I saved the PDF too.

Some surprises in there, at first glance. But on further consideration, each requirement seems to make sense.

Looks to be an extremely sensible approach all round to me.

I love the tyre rule, 7% bigger diameter than the largest OEM option.

So on my SF Foz, I could legally go from 205/70/15 to:
* 215/75/15, an increase of 34mm or 5.1%
* 235/70/15, an increase of 42mm or 6.3%

An increase in wheel width of 25mm is also allowed.

No mention of maximum lift allowed though which is disappointing

what about item 12?
Altering vehicle ride height by more than one third of the manufacturer’s suspension
travel in the direction of the ride height change.

You would need to see how this is interpreted though.
Does it mean that if I have 6 inches of total travel, I can add 1/3, or 2 inches in height?
Or does it mean that if I have 6 inches of total travel, but only 3 inches of down travel, then I can only add 1/3 of the down travel which is 1 inch?
