DIY Snorkel Installation

Thanks

I fitted one on my jeep xj, fuel economy suffered till I turned the snorkel top backwards. this also stopped leaves and dust being sucked in so much. or a couple of friends bought the dome type you usually see on lard rovers :)

Really? I would have thought the mild ram air effect would increase economy. Maybe there was some other reason for the poor result...did you reset the ECU when you fitted the snorkel? This is a must

I was one of many members who did this trick, a couple of us ran lpg and it caused terrible running problems at first? it was one of those chaps that discovered this "mod"
the only cars that really liked it bizzarley was the diesel jeeps lol

one mod I saw was a bizzar looking affair, it was a top like yours with the back cut oue and meshed, so the air wasn't rammed in, but flowed through allowing the engine to suck what air it was needed.

I will add that it was on the tarmac that the fuel suffered, on the trail it made no difference at all due to the low speeds involved.

I've wondered this too Ratboy01. I wonder if the Air Flow Meter needs air sucked past it rather than pushed past it.

I don't know if my fuel economy has suffered, but some performance at speed has. Will have to try the air ram turned backwards or at least sideways...

Cheers

Bennie
