hey guys,
Just thought I'd pose the question as to see if anyone else has had the same problem im having.

problem: If i accelerate really quickly, like plant the acc pedal to the floor, theres a lag short lag response then the whole car jerks and it takes off.

I've had the problem since i got me 99 forry but still am unable to work out what the problem may be,

possible solutions : I have not yet changed the tranny fluid/filter, although its still a nice reddy colour. and i have not checked the diff fluids yet either.

other then that, when i got the car i did have to change the tranny mount because every time i started her up i could hear the whole tranny knocking around. new tranny mount fixed that problem.

but yeah if this seems like something you have encounted before, any info would be greatly appreciated..

cheers

If you want quick and timely acceleration then you have to firmly and slowly push the accelerator pedal to use all the gears sequentially!

Slamming your foot on the accelerator forces the auto to recalculate and recalculate and recalculate and recalculate and recalculate and recalculate gear change points before it moves off.

I hate this when you just want it to GO but you have to press the pedal slowly and firmly else the auto will dither, dither, dither..

Reason 23,741 why I have a manual....

It may just be that its an older auto but some maintenance cant hurt, I'd change the ATF if you havent done it for a while.

Also, does it clunk into gear when you engage D or R?

I didn't read the above link, but that sounds def. like your knock sensor. I just replaced mine, it was quick and easy. Mine had been doing exactly what yours was for probably 2yrs. At first it would just be sometimes, then it got to where pretty much all the time it happened when starting off.
Went to Napa, spent $75 on a new one and BAM, no more problem and no more check engine light. She runs like she did the day i brought her home. Hard to imagine that a da** sensor could make it run so crappy. FYI - after talkin to several other subaru owners here, it turns out to be a very common thing to happen. In a couple instances, if the rubber around the bolt in part isn't cracked, you can take it out, clean it up and reinstall in to 15ft/lbs torque. That is probably the most important part. That takes care of the hesitation part. The knocking could be your cv axles. Recently replaced those too, and no more knock. I thought for sure some of the knock was the engine, but after taking care of them, i found i was wrong.
