Thought id just put a little bit on here of our day trip to the beach up here in Townsville. Then I saw a trip report in Bunyip State park from Dedman and started having second thoughts. those are some great tracks.
baby steps....
anyway here goes -
Thought it would be nice to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon down at the beach with my girls, so about 1130am I loaded the esky and the girls into the Forester and hit the road for the 45min drive south. After about 5min on the road the wife remembered the last time we went out that way and how she would like a bit more shade than just the back door and a wide brimmed hat.
So after a short exchange of colourful language, we were on our way to the local camping store. Will only take a minute she said.
After 5 stores and 1.5hrs we were back on the road with a shiny new 4x4 car shade for $90 and a bonus fridge cover for $5, be handy for the esky. – Junk mail today had a shade for $59... damn it!!
Arrived at the beach around 1330hr and the Forry got us through the potholed sandy access and onto the beach much to the wife’s relief (must get some recovery gear, compressor, lift kit, AT tyres) didn’t even look like getting bogged though. Got a few quizzical looks from passing 4X4 drivers.
Found a nice spot to park up, and put the new purchase to the test. After a few choice words it was up and we were relaxing in the shade. Bloody good idea that.
All in all not a bad little outing, also noticed a sign post for Salmon creek camping area 6klm up the beach, check it out next time, and take the fishing gear I think.
