Hey there Guys,

Im James, Im new to offroadsubaru.com.
But was reading somewhere about someone installing a Mitsibishi pajero NH-NJ 1990 snorkel onto their subi.
So instantly, I thought, OMG that would look awesome on mine.
I have a 99'forester. As you'll see below in the pics.

So a few days ago, i did some research online and found on ebay, a "Mitsibishi pajero NH-NJ 1990 snorkel" brought it for 115$ and free delivery.
Finally got it today amongst my new roof rack for 70$ on ebay as well. (Pics to come).

so yeah here is my step by step instructions on how I installed my snorkel for all you other guys out there that are interested.

it did come with a stencil, but, I roughed it in then tapped down the stencil drilled the holes. But i did read that the one guy that said he installed this type of snorkel to his subbie, he had to spend close to $300 to get it bent into shape to suite the car. I did not have to do this at all. all i did was mount the snorkel from the drivers door first then worked my way to the front of the car. this way I was able to correct the bow that is in the snorkel. With out having it heated up and moulded to the subbie just apply pressure and have someone else put on the nuts and washers. it works perfectly and still looks great (and cost effective)

just adding the thread locker to the studs before installing onto the car.

ending up taking off the quarter panel, hand/arm was to fat to fit up under the wheel arch to put the washer, nut and spanner. took out a few extra bolts and made things a lot easier.

had to get rid of all those useless air boxes and put in one of those slinky pipes, worked perfectly.

Once my mate and i finished installing the snorkel we found a spot in the area to go driving thru a massive puddle. it was like 2 feet deep and about 50 meters long and just sludge, was awesome!!

Nice install. Now there is another 99 forester on the forum with a snorkel like mine

Awesome job, well done :lildevil:

Few Qs:

Does your pipe seal properly onto the airbox? Mines loose so that's one thing I'll have to fix to have the system fully sealed.

How hard was it to remove the guard? If I have skinny arms, lol, would I need to?

Without bending the snorkel, was it much out from the panel shape? Do you think it will pull the panel out of shape?

Can we have a side on view of the snorkel along the side of the windscreen to see how much gap there is?

all i did was cut the bit of the connecting pipe from the air intake that connects to the air filter box off and re-join it back on and it fit inside the slinky pipe(blue). lol i that makes sense.
the guard is super easy to remove its about 6 bolts and the indicator light. take your time feel for resistance so you don't bend brackets for if you have missed bolts.
with out bending the snorkel you'll notice about a 3-4 inch gap from where the snorkel goes up the windows edge. - But like i said all i did was tighten up the nuts from the window side then worked my way to the front of the car, that way it slowly brought the snorkel flush with the fender.
Ill take a photo of the side view tomorrow morning and post it here. there is no gap at all anywhere on the snorkel, it sits perfectly on it.

cheers for the questions.

Great job with the snorkel mate :raz:
Well done

That was probably me :)

That was me also :iconwink:

Anyway, the one thing I have noticed is that the A Pillar on the 99 model is slightly different (& a better fit) than to that of the MY05 Forry (my Forry)
Hence the reason I had mine bent :)

- There was about a 3inch gap up on the a-pillar, but with a little persuasion i got it on with out bending it, but yeah it does work and works well. Ive been getting a lot of head turners when i drive past hahaha.
