Subaru Quad Coil Pack useful lifetime?

How long do they last and what are the symptoms of one starting to wear out?

Absolutely none of this stuff wore out/failed on Roo1 ('93 Impreza) in nearly 18 years and 234,000 kms. Never gave a single moment's trouble.

The rear tailpipe died.

The air conditioner died at around 170,000 kms.

The water pump was replaced at the 200K service (at about 205,000 kms).

Couple of headlight and other globes.

Had to replace the battery.

Instrument nacelle was replaced by Subaru under warranty at about 160,000 kms and around 8-10 y.o. - very nice of them!!

Couple of re-con drive shafts, all at the front.

That was it.

It just worked; and worked very well.

I hope and expect to get much the same sort of service out of Roo2.
As I don't abuse my vehicles, it seems to me that this is a reasonable expectation.

what are the symptoms of one starting to wear out?

cracking, misfire if one side shorts to the other. As I recall there's a fairly simple continuity / resistance test to determine if it's OK. I carry a spare on trips.

mine started with a slight misfire that got worse and worse untill the car was almost udrivable, subuaru uk couldnt even get me one, or so they said. so i bought a second hand one that is ok, but not perfect. and i keep an eye out at breakers for another replacemnet to carry as a spare.

^ The one in my '93 Impreza never missed a beat in 18 years, 234,000 kms.

Never replaced the plug leads either.
