This is on a 2013 XT. I forgot to turn VDC off and it just lost all power.

The Subaru Owner's Manual does warn about turning off the VDC in SWMBO's MY10 SH Auto if venturing off-road. It's somewhere around page 69,651 ... :rotfl:

It also mentions that the VDC part still works properly, but it changes the way the drivetrain works.

Were you just driving slowly or was that all the power you had!

I was driving slowly :)
I didn't want to scratch my pretty little bumper, which I ended up doing anyway because of the vdc kicking in.

Looks like you guys are just waking up down there, howdy!

Yes, I was amused about that part in the manual. Before I got to this hill we were taking a lunch break and I forgot to turn it off when we headed to this section of trail. I usually have it off.

From what I experienced with VDC off the active diffs are still working (individual wheel braking) but the throttle cut is inactive. Perfect for crawling up steep hills.
