Can you post a photo? Sometimes you need to get a bit creative, The din face should on most cars unclip, on alot of subaru's this only comes off after taking the trim out from infront of the gear stick directly under the facier. The heater controls are connected to cables and a really pain to un hook and hook back up, so Maybe try taking the top vents out in the middle of the dash and carefully pulling the din fascier forward when taking out the stereo. Both the stereo and din pocket will come out on a small harness held by 4 screws.

If you take out the vents remember too hook back up the hazard lights. I put a new cluster in a falcon i had once and forgot to hook up the dash lights only found out when it was pitch black and i couldnt see the speedo!

Not sure for the 03, but on the 02 you have to remove the trim around the shifter as it holds the bottom of the radio trim... and to remove the shifter trim, you have to unsnap the front of the handbrake trim. There are no screws.

ok i will take some photos to help explain.

also i have taken the trim around the gear stick and the side panles too.

thanks so much for your input guys, i will get back to you tonigt with photos.

Hi Ethan
There should be 2 screws to undo from inside the bottom of the side panels. The rest are clips, 1 each side of the a/c vents, 1 above the hazard indicator switch and 1 each side just under the radio. I usually avoid taking it out.

From the workshop manual:
A: REMOVAL
1) Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
2) Remove the front cover. <Ref. to EI-39, REMOVAL,
Console Box.>
3) Loosen the screws and clips (A), and then remove
the center panel.
4) Disconnect the connector.
5) Remove the fitting screws, and slightly pull out
the radio from center console.
6) Disconnect the harness connectors and antenna

feeder cord
