G'day all,

Planning to head to the deserts again, will have been a year since the last big outing so I'm keen as mustard for this!

This is Venom and I out there on Perra Track last year:

Dates: Saturday 21st September (arrive) - Saturday 28th September (depart).

Meet Point: I'm thinking first night's camp would be at our classic - O.T.I.T. I would also recommend fuelling up in Rainbow before hitting the sand, keep in mind their weird hours of operation:

^ Hoping that hasn't changed!

Trip itinerary:

Day 1: Saturday: travel, arrive and camp at OTIT

Day 2: Sunday: From OTIT head to Snow Drift or Casurina to camp via Wonga Camp

Day 3: Monday: Underbool to refuel, then hit up the fire break tracks to get into Big Desert SF, Camp at Red Gums.

Day 4: Tuesday: Head East deep into the Big Desert SF picking tracks as we go - camp at Big Billy Camp Ground.

Day 5: Wednesday: Fuel up in Murray Ville, then turn around and head south to Chinaman Well Track, Pella Track and Milmed Rock Track to camp at Round Swamp Camp Ground - or just take Milmed Rock Track to write in the Milmed Rock Guest Book

Day 6: Thursday: Head to Western Beach at Lake Albacutya and do the Perra Track West to East, camp at O.T.I.T again.

Day 7: Friday: Decide on where to head next...

Day 8: Saturday: head home from wherever we end up.

Other info: Due to the remoteness of the area and the extra stress sand travel places on the fuel economy I recommend that a spare jerry can of fuel be carried "just in case".

Murrayville will be our best place to restock food reserves. Underbool hasn't got much more than a general store - that's generally expensive and generally short on the range of products we'd actually use out bush.

Water will need to be carried. I remember that the water in Murrayville was crap and I found it difficult to drink.

A recovery kit should be carried, this should at least have a snatch strap and some D shackles.

Shovel and an air compressor would be good to have as well.

On that note, here's Snow Drift at the end of our trip last time:

Drop a line if you're interested in joining us for all or part of the trip ;)

Cheers

Bennie

Open on Sundays? In Rainbow? Check inside your spare tyre; they must be selling drugs.

I won't come, sadly, but take pics and vids :)

This will be difficult. Dont think I can do it as I'm in the Northern Territory late August and probably won't be able to get leave again til next year.

DISCOVERY: Members of the Victoria Police Clandestine Laboratory Squad examine seized goods at the rear of a Yaapeet property on Friday afternoon. Picture: PAUL CARRACHER
WIMMERA police made a surprise finding when they searched the rear of Yaapeet’s old post office on Thursday.
Drug Tasking Unit officers found a large amount of chemicals and paraphernalia, which they believe might have been used for manufacturing amphetamines.

The Mail-Times believes it might be the largest drug bust in the Wimmera in more than 10 years.
Police also allegedly uncovered a cache of weapons.
There were no residents inside the Byrne Street property at the time.
Specially-trained members from the Victoria Police Clandestine Laboratory Squad took over the scene on Thursday afternoon.
Half a dozen officers wearing protective clothing used breathing apparatus to access the property on Friday.
Investigators must ensure the scene is safe and analyse, identify and record all substances and items found.
Police expect processing of the scene to take several days.
The search was part of a lengthy police investigation.
Offi cers also searched a Wyndham Vale property near Melbourne about 2.30pm on Thursday and arrested a Wyndham Vale man, 71.

He was released pending further inquiries.
A Victoria Police spokesman said it was inappropriate for him to comment further because it was an ongoing investigation.

I'm in on this.

Sweet - for the whole trip? Not that I'm complaining, I'm happy with at least a catch up again, it's been too long.

This will be difficult. Dont think I can do it as I'm in the Northern Territory late August and probably won't be able to get leave again til next year.

Yeah you can... un-paid time off? :lildevil:

Surely you can, it's "just" a short drive away for you! I'm sure we could get some pics etc.

Nah its not the leave accrual that's the issue. Major project on with a 31 December deadline, heading up a new unit, hiring new staff etc.

Believe me: it will weigh heavily on my mind, and if the slightest opportunity arises I will come and find you lot.

Might find this bloke too:

Oh, and a pic from my last trip out there with Venom, just to whet your appetite:

Keen to come on this trip, but the only free days I have are the Fri, Sat, Sun at the end of the trip. So I might see if I can catch up with you somewhere then, depending where you are.
I will probably camp out somewhere the sat night and check out this

on the way home Sunday.

Unconfirmed at this stage.

This can join my list of "epic desert trips I missed out on in 2013"...

Ironically I'm on holidays for that exact week, but I'm in Mallacoota for most of it and then Sydney for the last few days. Have fun though guys, I did this trip in 2011 and it was awesome.

I've been meaning to drop in here and say to our SA members that from Adelaide to Rainbow it's an extra 30 minutes on my travel time from Shepp.

I've got a 4 hour 20 minuteish drive to the start point, which would make it about a 5 hour drive from Adelaide for you guys. You don't have to come for the whole trip - Wednesday would be the best time to depart or join in at Murrayville, it's about 3.something hours from Adelaide and also about the mid point of our trip from memory.

Just putting it out there to plant the seed :poke:

Cheers

Bennie

This is still on!

It seems there are currently four vehicles plus Subaruby if he's still in for the end of week segement.

I'm looking forward to this, I'll be setting up Ruby Scoo this weekend ready for the trip ;)

Any other takers?

Dulagarl you in or too busy?

Cheers

Bennie

Might be able to get out that way on either Wednesday night or Thursday. will keep you posted.

Awesome!

Channel 28 will be the frequency of choice for the trip ;)

Still packing, it's going well so far, still got quite a bit to do but I'm happy with how it's going.

See you all soon!

Cheers
