Our milling machine vises at work were old and worn out, and I just got a new camera so I had to take pics of something.
Often times we need to have two vises set up on our machines and they have to line up perfectly. We have two mills and four vises so I did them in pairs. When I'm done all four will be pretty close, but one set will be .001" (.025mm) shorter. Everything else has to be held to a tolerance of .0005" (.013mm); flatness and squareness.
Some of the parts after being cleaned in the solvent tank. They were nasty after being used for 20yrs. and never having been taken apart.
Grinding the bases in flat. I love this grinder, its calibrated down to .00001" (.0003mm), fortunately I never have to use that feature.
Grinding the removable jaws flat. Best grinding pic I got, the wheel is running at 3600RPM and the table is moving underneath. The new camera has a bit more shutter lag than I'd like making these pics difficult.
Masking off machine parts for paint is a PITA!!!
Before on the right, done on the left. The left one is currently in progress.
Being the Subaru dork that I am, Subaru World Rally Blue (as close as I could get) was my color choice. The vise is closer to WRB than the sticker.
Here's my 'office', ready for action.
